YVR Project Management (YVRPM) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Vancouver Airport Authority that was established in 2005 to oversee major expansion projects at YVR and has a reputation for delivering projects on time and on budget.

YVRPM has an opening for a permanent, full-time Manager, Airport Terminal Projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing, planning, developing and implementing airport terminal and related capital projects


Key responsibilities include:
  • Developing detailed requirements, conceptual designs, cost estimates, schedules and recommendations based on sound business principles in order to prepare Project Definition Reports (PDR) and Project Appropriation Requests (PAR) for senior management and board approvals of airport terminal and related capital projects
  • Managing the implementation of projects including:
  • Coordination of pre-feasibility and feasibility studies
  • Conceptual design and planning
  • Selecting consultants and managing their work
  • Developing schedule, cost and quality control plans
  • Reviewing technical design; specifications and drawings
  • Ensuring Airport Safety and Security are fully incorporated
  • Managing stakeholders and their interests
  • Preparing tender documents and pricing schedules
  • Ensuring competitive tendering
  • Completing and submitting permit documentation
  • Administering design and construction contracts through to close-out
  • Maintaining projects on budget, on schedule and within PDR or PAR scope
  • Monitoring progress of construction
  • Taking proactive corrective action when established time, cost and quality do not meet YVRPM requirements
  • Reviewing and approving all progress payment claims
  • Reviewing change orders
  • Ensuring conditions of Occupancy fulfilled
  • Accepting completed work
  • Facilitating commissioning and turnover of completed work to owners’ expectations and owners’ Maintenance & Operations
  • Managing support staff assigned to projects which includes: monitoring work and performance; recommending training; and determining future staffing requirements for the airport terminal and related capital projects
  • Maintaining currency in project management and construction practices, aviation industry developments, and airport terminal and related requirements

Key qualifications include:
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering or Architecture from a recognized university
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer or Architect in the Province of British Columbia
  • At least 15 years’ experience managing projects, with demonstrated experience managing at least one major project of $30 million in value or greater.  Some retail experience is preferred.
  • Proven experience managing a project team with stakeholders, consultants and contractors; proven track record
  • Proficiency in the English language with respect to report writing and giving oral presentations
  • Excellent computer skills
  • High energy, well organized and detail oriented
  • Motivated, dedicated and committed to excellence
  • Good teamwork skills
