This position operates in a matrix and team based environment and is accountable for overseeing and managing critical and day to day operational activities as well as short term planning that is aligned and contributes to the GTAA’s strategy, our airline customer’s success and delighting our airport guests.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities:
  • Provide leadership and actively coach and provide feedback to Day of team to foster and build a team environment to achieve operational and individual accountabilities
  • Partner an cross consult with other functional groups such as Customer Experience, Facilities and Corporate at all levels
  • Build effective work relationships with our customers
  • Identify priorities to meet changing needs, assign resources as needed and successfully manage the real time operational aspects of Toronto Pearson airport for Terminals
  • Effective at engaging large multi-disciplinary teams, achieving results and championing operational excellence
  • Ensure the execution of planned/demand work across airport operations, including required staffing levels and assignment of resources
  • Manage changing priorities and effectively oversee the management of emerging operational issues – communicate and mobilize team for response
  • Accountable for near and longer term planning, identifying operational trends, engaging the team to formulate solutions/recommendations and overseeing the planning and execution
  • Responsible for high level decision making for day-of operations and timely communication to Day Of team and other management as required
  • Analyze issues and establish operational priorities, identify and rectify gaps and or changes required to policies, SOP’s, or other protocols, and over see completion of actions
  • Ensure effective, timely communications across all team members and partners including functional groups, airline customers, and other stakeholders
  • Identify and implement through cross consulting and planning process/service improvements
  • Facilitate conflict resolution within the Day of team
  • Ensure specific scope/geography of responsibility is operating effectively and appropriately configured through use of policies/standards and procedures
  • Ensure resources and tools are available to build and support a high performing team
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with both internal/external stakeholders
  • Support event management (IMS)
  • Provide guidance to leadership and Day Of teams regarding personal performance
  • Develop and manage annual budget and business plan aligned to the Corporate Strategic Plan
  • Shared accountability with Functional Managers related to resources, budget requirements and goal achievement
Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Post Secondary degree or diploma in Aviation Management; Business Management; or Logistics would be an asset, and/or equivalent education and work experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an airport environment or similar with demonstrated experience in serving a large and complex customer base
  • Minimum 3 years’ Leadership with People Management experience, preferable in a matrix organization and multiple operations experience
  • Solid knowledge of airport operations either Terminal/Groundside, Airside and or Communication Centre
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, collaborate and negotiate cross functionally in a unionized environment, as well as with external stakeholders to achieve results
  • Solid business acumen and business improvement mindset to solution immediate issues and to identify trends, provide recommendations, plans and implement corrective actions
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively reach a broad audience of internal and external customers, guests and other key stakeholders
  • Strong decision-making skills and demonstrates a sense of urgency to deliver operational excellence
  • Ability to successful manage under pressure and respond to critical and or changing priorities throughout the day
  • Ability to work 12 hour rotational shift work (day, evening and weekend)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DA AVOP license within 30 days of appointment
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance
