Skyregional is currently recruiting a Safety Officer

Job Summary

The Safety Officer reports to the Chief Safety Officer and conducts investigations of safety related events (i.e. accidents, incidents, and safety occurrences) that occur during airline operations. The Safety Officer will track and trend relevant flight safety events, track recommendations and corrective actions resulting from safety investigations and ensure timely report closure and follow-up and lead Risk Assessments. Conduct detailed investigations of accidents, incidents, significant events and other safety issues such as those derived through trend analysis.

Key Areas of Responsibility /Description

1              Leadership •      Promoting the flight safety awareness program within the Company.
2              Safety & Regulatory        •             Efficiency and safety of the day to day operation;
•             Ensuring that appropriate Flight Operations management are made aware of relevant industry safety information; •   Bringing to the attention of both the Chief Safety Officer and Director Quality & Safety anything which indicates that the Company’s procedures may need to be revised in the interests of flight safety. •                Research regulatory issues pertaining to a particular event; •      Conduct safety audits of line operations.

3              Teamwork •       Maintaining an active role in daily operations to allow consistent observation of Company line operations; •             When required, liaise with FDA group for investigative support whilst ensuring the confidentiality of the received data; •    Attendance and participation at departmental safety related meetings; •                Assist in the maintenance of accident investigation Go-Team emergency response procedures and training; •             Assist in the coordination of corrective actions with operating departments and facilitate Operational Risk Management techniques within the organization to mitigate identified risks.

4              Analysis & Reporting •   Review of assigned SMS investigation reports and liaise with the Director Quality & Safety, as required, when making recommendations therein; • Collect flight data and other information in support of event investigation procedures; •            Prepare investigation reports that include the facts, analysis, conclusions and recommendations associated with an event; •  Collect safety event data via multiple sources. Ensure notification of applicable safety staff; •               Provide reports on flight safety trends identified by data collection efforts; •                Complete required risk assessments and ensure it is communicated with management •             Utilize data and trends to contribute to both internal and external safety related communications and publications; •                Ensure on time closure of all SMS reports and follow up.

5              Other    •             Other duties as assigned to support the operation.

•             Consider whether short-term goals will support long-term objectives. Review own actions against the organization’s strategic plan to ensure alignment and support safety initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•             Knowledge of airline operations with expert knowledge of Flight Operations, Inflight and Maintenance Operations;
•             Ability to acquire, analyze and present information gained through on-site investigation, independent reading, interviews with witnesses, and discussions with subject-matter specialists or others through appropriate methods;
•             Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
•             Strong project management skills;
•             Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with various levels of management, external business partners and regulatory agencies.

Education, Certifications and Work Experience
•             One (1) to three (3) years aviation safety or accident investigation experience;
•             Pilot and/or Flight Engineer experience an asset and strongly preferred;
•             Working knowledge of CARS;
•             Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite;
•             Ability to obtain a passport and legally enter and leave the country for international travel;
•             Authorized to live and work in Canada and obtain a Transport Canada Restricted Area Pass.
