Airside Coordinator - Airside Operations Department

Vancouver Airport Authority has a permanent, full-time opportunity for an Airside Coordinatorin the Airside Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager, Airside Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, secure and efficient operation of the airfield.

Key responsibilities include: 
  • Maintaining airport certification and compliance which includes: developing and documenting airside safety standards; writing procedures and directives that support Transport Canada certification requirements; and providing subject matter expertise, alternative solutions and mitigation strategies for irregular airside operations
  • Coordinating airside activities in accordance with Transport Canada Standards and Recommended Practices documentation, Nav Canada procedures and YVR procedures
  • Ensuring the airport’s safety and security management system programs are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards
  • Responding to and resolving operational issues that affect airside safety and/or regulatory compliance
  • Ensuring that airside capital construction projects are organized and conducted safely and in compliance with all aerodrome safety and security regulations, and advising stakeholders on airport and aircraft operational concerns and recommending changes where necessary
  • Promoting, monitoring and maintaining safe and efficient airside operations by working closely with various stakeholders on taxiway and runway operations, apron operations and gate operations
  • Establishing and maintaining effective two-way communications regarding airside capital projects with all stakeholders and customers including airlines, NAV Canada, the YVR Operations Centre, Aviation Security, Airside Escorts, Transport Canada, Airside Operations Department, YVR Engineering Project Teams, contractors and others as required
  • Organizing, facilitating and documenting meetings, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments, and other airside activities for airside capital projects
  • Ensuring all stakeholders and customers receive timely information concerning airside capital projects, and all aeronautical information publications are up-to-date with respect to the impact of these projects (e.g., publishing permanent facility changes in the Canadian Air Pilot and Canadian Flight Supplement)
  • Developing, writing, and reviewing Plans of Operations, Transport Canada exemptions and other documents related to airside projects
  • Responding to airport emergency situations in accordance with Airport Operational Directives and the Emergency Management Plan
Key qualifications include: 
  • Completion of a Certificate or Diploma in Airport Operations, Construction Management or other post-secondary education preferred
  • Proven experience working in an airport’s airside environment, as well as, leading, directing and coordinating subordinates, contractors and others in the provision of services in a safety critical, time sensitive work environment
  • A work history that demonstrates a personal commitment to safety and operational excellence
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong understanding of airport functions, policies and procedures, especially as they relate to airside operations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of TP312 Aerodrome Standards and Recommended Practices and the Airport Operations Manual
  • Proven project management skills
  • Proven ability to communicate at a professional level, both verbally (e.g. meeting facilitation, giving presentations, conflict resolution) and in writing (e.g. report writing)
  • Established history of building solid working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Excellent computer skills, proficiency at typing, and proven competency with MS Office Suite
  • Ability to organize and facilitate meetings
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license and the ability to obtain a D/A AVOP license
