Saint John Airport Inc. is hiring a full time Safety and Emergency Response Supervisor (SERS), who is a highly motivated individual and a strong team player. This is a unionized position with hours of work and rates of pay in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
The SERS is responsible for the ongoing training and emergency preparedness of the airport’s Emergency Response Personnel. Activities include the delivery of theoretical and practical training, record keeping, equipment and supply maintenance, all in compliance with applicable Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS), Transport Canada guidelines or other applicable regulations. The SERS will conduct drills, oversee performance testing of equipment and personnel, plan emergency response exercises and update and maintain an Emergency Response Manual for the airport.
In addition, the SERS oversees the day to day operation of the airports Emergency Response Personnel including scheduling, work order assignments, parts ordering, managing overtime, absenteeism and performance reviews. As part of the team responsible for safety at the airport, the SERS will assist in the delivery and maintenance of the Safety Management System (SMS). The SERS will update and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and participate in the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.


The SERS may be required to work shiftwork as a member of the Aircraft Rescue Firefighter (ARFF) response team, and will act as a member of the Airport Duty manager rotation.
Job Requirements
The successful candidate must meet the following criteria:
  1. Certified Aircraft Rescue Firefighter with at least 10 years recent experience preferred. Consideration may be given to a certified fire fighter with extensive training and supervisory experience.
  2. Training and experience in Emergency Response including Incident Command.
  3. Supervisory experience.
  4. Computer skills including competence with the Microsoft Suite.
  5. Possess, or obtain a valid New Brunswick driver’s license (Class 3E or higher), and must provide a current motor vehicle abstract.
  6. Meet Transport Canada Security clearance requirements.
  7. Agree to a criminal record check and pass an annual medical exam.
Candidate suitability will be based on experience as a team player and will include reference checks from other employers. In addition to the criteria listed above, candidates may be evaluated on communication skills, interpersonal skills, teamwork, problem solving, initiative, enthusiasm, work ethic, adaptability, reliability and attention to detail.
