The WestJet Employee Association (WEA) is looking for a Communications Advisor to fill a one year maternity leave opportunity.

The WestJet Employee Association is the internal employee association at WestJet and is made up of six Member Associations (Airports, AMEs, Contact Centre, Office employees, Cabin Crew and Pilots), representing all non-management employees. This is a senior communications position with a strong focus on employee communications, social media and public relations. Reporting to the WEA Business Manager and working as a member of the Business Team, this position supports the day-to-day communications requirements for the WEA and its Member Associations and assists in the strategic planning and evaluation of communication projects. There is a focus on employee engagement, change management, public relations, website strategy and website content development, as well as social media.

Responsibilities:
Develop internal and external communication strategies to support the WEA and Member Associations’ strategic plans and identified priorities
Develop and implement tactical communication plans aimed at Association stakeholders, including the development, writing and production of communication materials
Develop, update and monitor content for intranet and websites, including social media
Oversee and participate in the creation of all marketing materials for the Associations
Develop metrics to measure and benchmark the effectiveness of various communication vehicles and strategies
Coach and support Association Chairs regarding communicating news, information, projects and initiatives to their teams and members effectively in order to achieve the desired results
Develop and maintain exceptional working relationships with Association teams responding to their needs while balancing overall WEA priorities and internal resources
Other duties as required

Qualifications:
Degree in public relations, communications, journalism or business
Minimum five years of experience in a strategic internal communications role in a corporate environment
Experience working as an advisor to leaders
Proven ability to work with a strategic and consultative approach to communications planning
Excellent writing skills with a demonstrated ability to write quickly and succinctly (think on your feet), often within tight timelines
Knowledge of Canadian Press style
Strong relationship-building skills with experience working with various stakeholders
Experience with SharePoint (or equivalent website software)
Experience in employee and labor relations is an asset
Experience in the airline industry is an asset
