Job Description Airside Project Geomatics Specialist 

The Airports and Aviation Business unit of SNC-Lavalin delivers challenging Engineering and Construction Services to various Clients throughout the globe. It’s Airside Infrastructure team specifically deals with the development of Civil and Electrical projects on live operating Airfields. The team has recently been awarded a number of substantial projects across Canada and is looking to expand its Montreal and Vancouver offices. We are looking to fill positions for an Airport Geomatics Specialist. The group is searching for proactive candidates with the ability to deliver work diligently and with a high level of quality and attention to detail.

Under the supervision of a senior Geomatics Specialist, the proponent will be required to perform detailed topographic surveys and mapping for various infrastructure projects. Drafting and layouts of digital terrain models will then be completed as per the standards and specifications of the Province or State where the projects reside.

Requirements:
  • Required to have completed geomatics training and certification.
  • a minimum of 3 years of experience in field surveying; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • A working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D and Autocad
  • Sound knowledge of design principles and methods, field works, and of the applicable Engineering Department policies, practices, procedures and standards.
  • Sound knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in the construction along with a basic understanding of Quality Assurance/Control methods and testing.
  • Ability to review drawings for general accuracy and conformance with applicable standards and specifications; and, monitor construction projects ensuring satisfactory completion.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally in English, and deal with co-workers, clients and contractors.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people at all levels both inside and outside the organization.
  • Ability to collect, analyze and/or synthesize technical, statistical, costing and related data and information.
  • Ability to prepare, read and interpret plans, specifications, contract documents and related material and to provide information and assistance to Engineering.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records, reports, correspondence and various other materials related to the work.

Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia. Follow all applicable Safe Work Procedures, participate in Occupational Health & Safety training, meetings, report work place hazards. Surveying by use of robotic total stations, RTK GPS in engineering applications Assets: Drafting aerodrome obstacle charts. Using conventional and digital levels to determine elevations. Knowledge of working in the restricted area of an airport.
