We have permanent, full-time and part-time opportunities for Terminal Duty Officers in the Airport Operations Department.  Reporting to the Manager, Operations Centre, the successful candidates are responsible for the daily coordination of all terminal operations and processes which allow customers and bags to move safely, securely and efficiently through the airport.  The key decision making, action oriented and results driven role responds to operational issues and coordinates resolution and activities required for the day to day operation of the terminal facility. 

The results of this posting will apply to any Terminal Duty Officer positions that may be vacated as a result of filling the permanent, full-time and part-time positions noted in this posting, Ref # 17-117.  If no additional vacancies immediately arise, as anticipated, from this posting within the Terminal Duty Officer classification, future vacancies will be posted accordingly.



Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the real-time operational activities which impact upon or affect the terminal operations at YVR and coordinate activities to mitigate impacts to the operations
  • Responding to and coordinating activities to manage operational concerns from our business partners, tenants and stakeholders in the terminal
  • Planning for and monitoring peak operating time issues and congestion concerns
  • Assessing the execution of operational plans from the eyes of the passenger
  • Coordinating terminal activities to ensure safe, secure, clean and efficient daily operations
  • Taking lead role in response to airport emergencies
  • Conducting terminal facility inspections
  • Providing updates and recommendations to accountable managers for issues that require follow up beyond real-time operations
  • Secondary school education plus one to two years of post-secondary schooling, or equivalent experience
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • A strong understanding of the aviation industry, airport operational processes, customer care, aviation security, public safety and the key requirements listed above will be considered an asset
  • Other requirements include:
  • Determined and resilient team player who takes initiative
  • Proven leadership skills, particularly in coordinating operational and emergency response activities
  • Exceptional interpersonal, critical thinking, decision making, conflict resolution and customer service skills to enable the successful candidate to address operational issues in a professional and efficient manner
  • Ability to do shift and weekend work is also required as Airport Operations is a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week operation
  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a Restricted Area Identification Card, Restricted Radiotelephone Operator’s License (Aeronautic), and a YVR “D/A” Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit (AVOP) to perform his or her duties in this role
