Aviation Security Supervisor:  A.S.P. Security - Mississauga, ON
SUPERVISOR AIRSIDE SECURITY
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Airside Supervisor is a 24/7 mobile shift position responsible for the "day of" oversight, supervision, and coordination of a front-line team of security guards assigned to airside access control gates, airside and groundside mobile vehicle patrols and escort and surveillance duties at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The Supervisor is the primary after hours point of contact for clients and as such is responsible for coordinating "day of" activities with client operations teams to review issues, challenges and changing requirements and appropriately respond to emerging operational issues, events or activities.
Airside Supervisors are responsible for proactively supporting the day of operation by ensuring effective and efficient operations and providing quality customer service to passengers through the daily leadership and supervision of their team. Supervisors are responsible for security guard performance management/monitoring, on-the-job training/coaching, maintaining time, and attendance records and for ensuring compliance with company and client policies and procedures as well as government regulations.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports directly to the Security Service Delivery Manager and indirectly to the Director, Aviation & Commercial Services.  Has direct supervisory authority over Airside Security Guards - Airside Access Control/NPSV, Airside Ad-hoc and Escort & Surveillance guards, Airline guards (non-GTAA), as well as Airport Mobile Patrol Guards (Airside & Groundside).
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversight of assigned team's daily work plan, adjusting priorities and resource allocations to meet demand and ensuring the team's adherence to established performance standards and protocols
  • Ensures sufficient, qualified, properly trained guard resources consistent with contractual obligations for each Post/position including sufficient qualified relief and back-up staff
  • At the request of client, arranges to provide and implement additional security resources to accommodate enhanced security requirements
  • Attends and participates in client Daily Airside Operations Briefings and any other security meetings established to address specific needs/issues
  • Maintains an open line of communication with clients to help ensure the delivery of quality services
  • Monitors and enforces all designated Airport safety, security and operational procedures and regulations applicable to the performance of the Service. Ensures the integrity of the Access Control points and report any breaches of security, safety/security deficiencies, system/equipment failures immediately to the IOCC
  • Provides leadership and direction in emergencies and assists police and emergency personnel in times of crisis
  • Investigates all problems, complaints, incidents, events and deficiencies and submits a formal report of all findings and recommended corrective action to the Service Deliver Manager and Client representative and implements appropriate corrective action after obtaining approval from Manager and/or client
  • Ensures Post Orders and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are current and maintained in good condition containing only the relevant information and not defaced or marked upon in any manner. Ensures all Post Orders, directions and instructions are promptly and efficiently followed and performed and complied with to the satisfaction of the client in accordance with the terms of the Contract
  • Performs daily performance/quality control shift inspections of Posts, employees and equipment to ensure conformance to client and company policies/procedures and service/performance expectations relative to:
    • Employee knowledge of Post Orders, including Amendments/Deviations
    • Ensure guards understand and perform their assigned duties in a competent manner and meet or exceed established Performance Standards and expectations
    • Verification that Guard logbooks and/or note books are effectively maintained detailing the status of the Post and any incidents/events/problems/malfunctions encountered and action taken
    • Ensure all records and reports are legible, neat and concise and in the approved format
    • Incident/Occurrence Reports completed in a clear, factual manner prior to end of shift;
    • Validation that guards are dressed in appropriate uniform and are properly equipped with PPE equipment
    • Guards visibly display their RAIC on outer clothing with photo in view at all times as required by RAIC Terms and Conditions of Issue
    • Confirm the condition and presence of client/company issued inventory
  • Prepares Inspecting Officers Reports, Daily Operational Summary Reports, Shift Inspection Reports, Incident/Occurrence and Non-Conformance Reports for all incidents/events, complaints or deficiencies discovered. Maintains records of complaints, problems, incidents, events and disciplinary, operational or administrative actions taken
  • Maintains effective control of all company/client issued inventory, equipment and supplies (e.g. vehicles, radio/cell phone, tablets, etc.) from loss, damage, misuse, theft, etc.
  • Coordinates the conduct of weekly silent alarm tests at designated guard Posts and forwards test log report to SOC
  • Delivers, assesses and records OJT Training for:
    • new recruits
    • existing guards prior to assignment at new/unfamiliar post/position
    • conducts random OJT In-Field Training modules to security guards
  • Assists management with staffing, training, scheduling as well as employee performance management and discipline
  • Performs other duties as required and directed by Service Delivery Manager

Job Knowledge
  • Comprehensive knowledge/understanding of Airport security operations and procedures, situational awareness techniques and familiarity with the layout of the Airport and associated facilities/buildings, roadway systems as well as security systems (RAIC, Access Control, NPSV, CCTV, Guardtek, etc.)
  • Must possess or obtain knowledge of all relevant federal regulations and standards pertaining to Restricted Areas as well as site specific security procedures, including a general knowledge of:
    • Canadian Aviation Security Regulations
    • Airport Threat & Risk Assessment Procedures
    • GTAA Rules and Regulations
    • Airport Emergency Response Plan
  • Good knowledge and understanding of client contractual requirements and customer expectations
  • Knowledgeable in use of force as it pertains to the Criminal Code of Canada and any applicable provincial laws
  • Knowledgeable of the Private Investigators and Security Guards Act. Including all applicable regulations and guidelines pertaining to working as a Security Guard in the Province of Ontario
  • Well attuned to changes and developments within the airport and the expectations and obligations owed to the client, the public and ASP INC.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience
  • Minimum 2 years' employment with A.S.P. Incorporated and/or one of the following requirements:
    • Previous Security Supervisory experience
    • Sufficient prior industry related experience (i.e. Police, Military and Security);
    • Formal law enforcement training or Diploma
  • Must have 3 years of Supervisory experience or equivalent
  • Must be a High School Graduate and possess a Grade 12 High School Diploma or acceptable equivalent
Mandatory Requirements/Qualifications
  • A Canadian Citizen or a Permanent Resident or Landed Immigrant
  • Must have resided in Canada for a minimum of 5 years
  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Must be bondable
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Transportation Security Clearance and a Toronto Pearson RAIC (Restricted Access Identification Card)
  • Licenced by the Province of Ontario as a registered Security Guard
  • Obtain and maintain GTAA certification as an Access Control Guard
  • Must have a full Ontario Drivers licence with no restrictions and a clean driver abstract
  • Must obtain a Toronto Pearson AVOP within 6 weeks of commencement of duty
  • Must hold a certificate demonstrating completion in a recognized Customer Service Training Program
  • Must be willing and able to participate in and successfully complete the following training as a prerequisite for employment:
    • Company Basic Security Training program that involves 2 or more unpaid classroom training days as a prerequisite for employment
    • Supervisory Training course that involves up to 5 or more classroom training days
    • Company Quality Assurance program orientation
    • Practical training in radio procedures, usage and communications and must maintain a high level of radio proficiency
  • Must possess and/or obtain valid First Aid & CPR certificate
  • Must be able to work all shifts, including nights and rotations
  • Physically capable of performing all duties of the position and able to work in all weather conditions, indoors and outdoors
ASSETS
  • Airport security and/or operations experience is highly desirable
  • Possession of a valid Transportation Security Clearance and Airport RAIC (Restricted Access Identification Card) is a definite asset and preference will be given to such candidates
  • Law enforcement background an asset
  • Security Industry Accreditation (CPP, PSP, etc.)
