Title: Airport / FBO Operations

Length: Full Time Contract (1 Year) – Opportunity for position to become permanent full time following successful contract period.
Hours of Work: Various shifts including weekends and holidays
Wage Range: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour

Location: Lake Simcoe Regional Airport, 224 Line 7 North, Oro Medonte, ON, L0L 2E0 (Just North of Barrie, ON)


General Description of Duties:
Assist in the i) Operation of a Regional Airport Facility through maintaining grounds, facilities and equipment of the Lake Simcoe Regional Airport in accordance with Canadian Aviation Regulations, Provincial and Federal Regulations as well as internal operational practices and procedures.

Assist in the ii) Operation of airport Fixed Based Operations (FBO) through the servicing of aircraft including but not limited to fueling, marshalling, providing various ground services as well as exemplary customer service. All duties require the ability to work variable shifts and hours year round, including weekends and statutory holidays; and overtime, rotating, extended, or irregular shifts in all weather conditions.

Specific Duties include (but not limited to):
Perform daily inspections of the airport property, buildings and systems in accordance with all Airport Operations Manuals; identify deficiencies and requirements for remedial action.
Test airport lighting, UNICOM and security systems and check accuracy of airport weather/meteorological equipment on a daily basis and note deficiencies for remedial action.
Maintain records of aircraft movements, types of aircraft using the airport, assign aircraft parking and prepare reports on traffic activity on a regular basis.
Issue NOTAM’s (Notice to airmen) and AMSCR’s (Aircraft Movement Surface Condition Reports) as necessary.
Inspect condition of the aircraft operational areas on a daily basis, or more often during poor weather conditions and special events, to identify any security or safety hazards and issue advisories as required. Further, the employee shall take corrective action to resolve any hazards or security issues and report same to the Airport Manager or designate.
Operate the Airport’s UNICOM radio service and A*utomatic Weather Observation S*tation to provide traffic and weather advisories to pilots using the airport.
Provide airport information concerning the airport facilities, services and operational status to users, tenants, and public and government agencies under guidance of the Airport Manager or designate.
Implement the Airport Emergency Response Plan in situations defined within.
Implement any necessary airport operational procedures as defined in all airport operational manuals.
Monitor airport wildlife and bird activity and carry out regular counts of such activity. Implement wildlife control procedures as detailed in all airport operational manuals.
Operate and maintain the airport fuel dispensing service in accordance with all airport operational manuals.
Procure, operate, maintain and to generally carry out functions of bookkeeping, airport activity record-keeping and on-site administrative duties as assigned from time to time.
Maintain and promote a professional image for the airport by ensuring a clean and neat personal appearance, in uniformed attire, tidy public areas, and courteous and helpful service for airport users and visitors.
Carry out any snow removal and landscape maintenance activities as required.
Conduct general maintenance activities to include airfield lighting repairs, navigational aids repairs (i.e. PAPI’s, AWOS, etc.), airport equipment maintenance (tractor, vehicle, GPU, Lavatory cart, runway sweeper, spreader, etc.)
Operate airport equipment to include at a minimum; mobile fuel bowser (minimum 25,000 lbs GVWR), forklift, truck(s), tractors (for aircraft towing operations and snow removal); GPU, lavatory cart, de-icing equipment, runway sweepers, spreaders, etc.
Provide customer service through aircraft marshalling, hotel reservations, catering requests, ground transportation, etc.
Ensure that such duties and responsibilities that, as from time to time, may be assigned by airport management are carried out.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum Grade 12 secondary school education but related post-secondary education (minimum 2 year program) is preferred and considered an asset
  • Previous Airport Operations experience is considered an asset
  • Previous Fixed Base Operations (FBO) experience is considered an asset
  • Radio Operators Licence or must attain within 30 days of employment
  • Airport Vehicle Operators Permit (AVOP) or attain within 10 days of employment
  • Strong computer skills
  • Must be a self-starter who is used to taking initiative to complete tasks and accept responsibility
  • Work well as part of a team or independently
  • Strong people skills and verbal communication
  • Flexible with schedules
  • Must have a valid driver’s licence and own transportation to and from airport
  • Ability to work overtime, shift work and on-call
  • Physical labour and heavy lifting required working in all weather conditions
  • Experience operating equipment is an asset
