Airside Coordinator - YVR

We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for an Airside Coordinator in the Airside Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager, Airside Operations Delivery, the successful candidate will ensure the safe and efficient operation of the airfield through planning and coordination of activities impacting the operation. This key decision making, action oriented and results driven role responds to operational issues, requests and coordinates responses required to sustain a safe, efficient, well maintained, and operated airfield. The successful candidate will be a positive self-starter, comfortable working in a dynamic and changing environment across multiple departments to ensure the success of the operation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the on shift operational delivery teams are informed and prepared for all upcoming activities within the airfield operating environment, including necessary mitigations or irregular operations plans
  • Managing evaluating impacts and coordinating required activities in the airside environment to ensure continuity of the operation through the lens of safety, compliance, and efficiency.
  • Proactively identifying conflicting activities and develop and make recommendations on alternate plans or actions to deconflict timing of those activities, including developing and maintaining a long-term view of upcoming activities
  • Developing, writing, and communicating detailed plans related to upcoming work or activity in the airfield
  • Supporting maintenance of airport certification and compliance by providing subject matter expertise and mitigation strategies for irregular airside operations
  • Leading and developing communications plans to support to stakeholders related to impacts or changes to airside operations as part of planned or emergency work
  • Supporting delivery of our airside operation through policies, procedures, and standards
  • Maintaining a strong interface with peers related to airside capital construction activities to ensure those activities do not conflict with other planned activities, and that these activities do not adversely impact airport operations
  • Responding to, and rectifying issues that affect airside safety and/or regulatory compliance

Key qualifications include:

  • At least one year of recent, related experience working in an airport’s airside environment, supplemented by a technical school or college certificate or diploma in Airside Operations, Operations Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading, directing and coordinating teams, contractors, and others in the provision of services in a safety critical, time sensitive work environment
  • A work history that demonstrates a personal commitment to safety and operational excellence
  • Strong critical thinking, decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding of TP312 Aerodrome Standards and Recommended Practices
  • Proven ability to communicate at a professional level, both verbally (e.g. meeting facilitation, giving presentations, conflict resolution) and in writing (e.g. report writing, presentations)
  • Established history of building solid working relationships with internal and external customers, and demonstrated experience managing difficult conversations
  • Excellent computer skills, proficiency at typing, and proven competency with MS Office Suite. Experience in Visio and Adobe Illustrator is an asset
  • Strong ability to multitask in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service delivery
  • Some evenings/weekend shift work hours may be required in support of operational planning and emergencies (e/g weather & winter operations)
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license and the ability to obtain a D AVOP license, as well as drive in all weather conditions, day and night

This role requires work to be done primarily onsite at the airport.

This position is open to Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external candidates. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.
