On November 02 Airport Operations Classes 11, 12 and 13 were in for a treat when
Mark Ritchie, the
Yukon's superintendent for community airports came to speak to the group about airport operations in the north. Mark's entertaining presentation highlighted some of the challenges of working in the north - from unusual wildlife management issues to working in sub-zero temperatures. Of course, he also touched on some of the very real benefits, such as the importance of providing a vital link to isolated communities. Mark's examples gave insight into this aspect of Canadian aviation and some of the issues and opportunities available in this wonderful part of the country.
Thank you Mark, for taking the time to share your passion for northern aviation with us!
