The Vancouver Airport Authority has an opening for a permanent, full-time Wildlife Program Specialist in the Airside Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager, Airside Planning & Development, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the airport’s wildlife hazard mitigation program.

Key responsibilities include:

• Managing various wildlife services contracts which involves: defining service performance standards; establishing and maintaining a contract performance management program; monitoring contracts for compliance; and supervising annual budget for wildlife management
• Establishing short and long-term plans for wildlife hazard mitigation
• Developing, reviewing and writing policies and procedures relating to mitigating wildlife hazards
• Conducting detailed statistical analyses on all wildlife related activity reports
• Representing and promoting the airport’s interests in sustainable wildlife management practices with municipal, regional, provincial and federal wildlife officials
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with air carrier and pilot safety management officials, as well as, internal stakeholders

Key qualifications include:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or related scientific field
• Registration as an Applied Biologist or equivalent combination of education and work experience
• Proven knowledge of aircraft operating characteristics, safety management systems and airport operations (including planning, design and management)
• Solid writing skills, particularly in the areas of business writing, plan writing and report writing
• Strong analytical skills including both inferential and descriptive statistics
• Demonstrated presentation skills with the ability to present to groups ranging from committees to public forums
• Excellent MS Office skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license
