Canadian North Inc is currently recruiting a Senior Director, Operations based in Calgary and reporting to the Vice President Operations, Charter and Cargo.  Competition Number SDOA12/

The Senior Director, Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and economical compliance
with Company policies, regulatory requirements, conditions of the Company Air Operator's
Certificate, as well as the preparation and monitoring of the department's annual budget. This
position is also responsible for daily flight and ground operations.

Responsibilities:

. Provide leadership and overall direction to subordinates
. Designate, direct and control the daily flight operations, maintenance, in-flight and
airport functions within the Company
. Advise the Vice President, Operations, Charter and Cargo on operational and
technical matters, including operational and business risks
. Initiate and direct planning of projects relating to new equipment, modification of
existing equipment or retrofits, in order to maintain and improve the safety and
operational efficiency of equipment used by all operational departments
. Maintain liaison with Transport Canada on all regulatory matters affecting the Air
Operator Certificate
. Ensure regulatory compliance of daily operating functions, including personnel of
the Flight Operations, Cabin Safety, Maintenance and Airports Departments, in
conjunction with the respective departmental Director or Senior Manager
. Ensure that all Company operational standards and procedures are in accordance
with regulatory requirements
. Ensure that operational control is exercised over all Company flights, in accordance
with the Canadian Aviation Regulations, including all scheduled, special, charter,
positioning, training and development flights.
. Ensure that all pilot training and checking is accomplished in accordance with
Company policies and regulatory requirements and is conducted in a safe and cost
effective manner, consistent with the highest industry standards
. Ensure that manuals for each operational department are properly developed and
maintained
. Ensure that a system of records are in place for each operational department and
that the recorders are maintained in accordance with Company policies and
regulatory requirements
. Delegate duties as necessary to other supervisory personnel, while remaining
accountable for the completion of these duties
. Provide direction and guidance to the Commercial Operations Centre
. Initiate organization changes and monitor promotions, reclassifications, salary
changes, relocations, etc., for all personnel under his/her jurisdiction, subject to
the provisions of any applicable labor agreement and Company policies
. Responsible for the hiring, management and motivation of all personnel in Flight
Operations, Cabin Safety, Maintenance and Airports, including the termination,
suspension, demotions and other forms of corrective action for cause subject to
Company policy and the provisions of any labor agreement
. Responsible for the administration and planning of all labor relations activities of
the departments including contract negotiations, grievances and arbitration
. Act on behalf of Vice President, Operations, Charter and Cargo in his/her absence
. All other duties as assigned by the Vice President, Operations, Charter and Cargo

Qualifications:

. Minimum 5 years airline industry operations management experience
. Post secondary education is considered an asset
. Minimum 5 years leadership experience required
. Extensive experience working in a unionized environment
. Possess strong presentation skills; an active listener demonstrated superior verbal
skills with a clear and concise writing style
. Ethically uncompromising, exhibiting the highest levels of honesty and integrity,
enjoys working in cross-cultural environments, welcomes and supports diversity
. Demonstrated strong service orientation toward both internal and external
customers
. Possesses a high level of energy, self-motivation and initiative
. Can accommodate a 25%-50% travel requirement
