Summit Air is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to support its flight operations based out of Yellowknife, NT. The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the flow of day-to-day accounting functions for the finance team. This is a dynamic, hands-on role that encompasses time entry, payroll, accounts receivable, equipment time entries, and journal entries. In addition, the Accounting Manager provides supervision and mentoring to accounting staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures to ensure standardization and compliance
  • Assists the accounting team in implementing the appropriate processes to ensure all reporting is accurate and timely per operational and divisional requirements
  • Ensures accuracy, completeness and timeliness in the processing of all accounting documents
  • Ensures payroll, equipment time entry, AP and AR deadlines are met on a weekly basis, by both overseeing accounting staff and performing the work as required
  • Provides leadership, guidance and training to junior project accounting staff by assigning and outlining specific activities, advising on technical problems and reviewing individual work
  • Intervenes and acts as escalation point with vendor representatives, client representatives and project teams for issues that project accounting staff cannot solve on their own


Requirements

  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible working accounting experience; aviation industry experience 
  • Post-secondary education in finance or accounting
  • Previous supervisory experience an asset
  • Basic understanding of project contractual terms
  • Excellent MS Office skills, particularly Excel
  • Proficiency with computerized accounting systems; familiarity with JD Edwards a definite asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead, mentor and train
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, able to multi-task, set priorities and meet
