New Posting - YVR

Simplified Passenger Travel (SPT) seeks to measurably improve the passenger experience at YVR by process reengineering, implementing new technologies and removing exception handling from any primary process.  The resulting reduction in wait times and queuing greatly assist the flow of passengers throughout the airport experience.

Reporting to the Director, Simplified Passenger Travel, the Manager, Simplified Passenger Travel will lead the team on solutions that promote simplified and automated passenger travel.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading numerous SPT projects which includes gaining support from key stakeholders such as governments and airlines, providing regular updates to senior management and continuously following up on completed projects in order to find opportunities for improvement
  • Managing the relationship with strategic business partners, including preparing and delivering presentations to these partners to maintain solid working relationships
  • Managing multi-million dollar capital and operating budgets efficiently and responsibly
  • Reviewing and monitoring the status of projects including providing direction and recommending solutions that meet the needs of the corporate business plan
  • Researching and analyzing existing passenger processes and recommending process improvements
  • Making decisions to implement solutions that redefine airport and other stakeholders’ processes and workforce
  • Developing and implementing innovative and strategic marketing plans for SPT products, aimed at maximizing revenues and improving the customer experience
  • Managing the sale of SPT products through multiple channels, including direct to airports and through airlines and cruise lines at the corporate level, including negotiating contracts with external stakeholders
  • Designing and directing a strategic, proactive communication strategy for SPT by collaborating with the Airport Authority’s Communications team and with third party communication agencies; responsibilities may include acting as one of the primary spokespersons for media inquiries
  • Attending industry conferences, exhibitions, and other events to promote, sell, and otherwise market the solutions
  • Representing Authority interests at the local and federal levels within various facets of government
  • Actively participating in joint government/industry working groups aimed at passenger and baggage facilitation
  • Working closely with the SPT implementation team to ensure long term opportunities for increased sales of SPT products
  • Providing support and direction to the SPT team; this may include monitoring work efforts and performance, hiring, coaching, motivating and supporting developmental activities, conducting formal evaluations and applying appropriate discipline

Key qualifications include:
  • A bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • A minimum five years of recent and related experience, including managing external stakeholders
  • Strong industry knowledge in the local and international market; preference will be given to those with previous experience working with government and/or familiarity with the aviation industry
  • Solid relationship building skills with all levels of an organization, both internally and externally
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with ability to develop and delivery engaging and professional presentations to a wide variety of audiences
  • Experience in process re-engineering is an asset as is familiarity with processes and technologies available to simplify process flows
  • Ability to engage industry forums and stay on top of global trends in passenger processing innovations and technologies
  • Team player with well-developed interpersonal skills and proven experience managing and coaching teams for high performance
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
  • Motivated self-starter
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office
  • Travel is required
