BCAC Up-date

Thanks to all who attended this years Bridging the Skills Gap Workshop as well as sponsors of Silver Wings Awards Gala, held October 30th

The workshop entitled “Bridging the Skills Gap” brought together 70 industry executives, instructors, aviation students and interested parties to listen to speakers from various sectors of aviation address the issue of the training gap within the aviation industry and how various companies are dealing with that themselves.  Keynote speaker, David Franson, Regional Director Market Analysis, BOEING, presented topic “Global Commercial Aircraft Forecast–Pilot, Maintenance and Manufacturing Requirement.” Contact BCAC’s Executive Director,Vanessa Griffiths, to learn more on action items from this event.

The Silver Wings Awards is the highlight of the year and 200 friends and colleagues came together that evening to support the 2013 industry winners presented with awards in categories of Aviation Entrepreneur–NGRAIN; Environment Award–Victoria Airport Authority; Back and Bevington Air Safety Award–Claude Marchand (Conair Group); Robert S. Day Award–BCIT Aviation Program; William Templeton Award–Nelson Pilots Assn; and Lifetime Achievement in Aviation–Capt. Garry Meier (Hawkair).    

Presentations totaling in excess of $10,000 in scholarships to students studying in various fields of aviation were as follows:  Al Michaud Memorial–Kyle Grealy; Anne & Rudy Bauer Memorial–Jonathan Jimenez; Sandra Stoddart-Hansen and Mike Matthews Scholarship–Dario Stewart-Imbert; BCAC Airport Managers Airport Ops/Mgt–Oxana Klemin and Candace McKibbon; Barry & Jim Aviation Mtce Graduate–Hiroko Nakasone; Ernie Alexander Memorial–Patrick Simonian Kordolia; William Templeton Airport Ops/Mgt–Naveed Nadeem; and Anderson Family Scholarship (awarded in June)–Alexandra Johnston.  BCAC accepts donations to the scholarship fund throughout the year.   Scholarship nominations will be open again in the spring of 2014.
