COMPANY OVERVIEW
Strategic Aviation (SA) is an emerging aviation services company offering a rapidly-broadening range of passenger, cargo and ground support services at a range of Tier 2 airports in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, NWT, Yukon and Nova Scotia.
THE POSITION
Strategic Aviation (SA) will be providing Ground Services to support winter charter operations. The service runs from January 15th through to April 30th, 2014 seven days a week. The Operations Manager will be a “Working Manager” based on a 6 on/3 off schedule, which includes morning and evening shifts. Shift times range from Midnight 00:00–06:00; 14:00–18:00; and 17:30–22:00.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Operations Manager’s daily responsibilities involve supervision, scheduling and training of Ground Service Agents (GSA’s); ensuring they are adhering to Standard Operating Procedures with regard to Service Level Agreements and Health and Safety requirements. The Operations Manager must also seek to understand the customer’s needs and strive to exceed their expectations on a daily basis.
The Operations Manager will work closely with the Director –Operations, and Director – People to establish SA’s operation at Halifax International Airport. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Implementing Strategic Aviation’s manpower methodology, planning, sked plan and systems. Assist with determining staffing levels and operational requirements, while keeping unproductive labour costs and overtime to a minimum.
  • Assist in interviewing and recommending the selection of GSA’s based on job requirements; complete and submit all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate all training requirements to ensure audit compliance with SA Training Manager.
The Operations Manager will oversee and participate in providing Ground Handling Services to the carrier. Duties will include:
  • Marshall or tow arriving and departing aircraft to gate position
  • On-load/off-load cargo and passenger baggage
  • Servicing of aircraft lav/water/GPU/Heat Cart
  • Grooming of aircraft cabin
  • Ensure necessary ground equipment is available in the ramp area and bag room for upcoming flights
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Available for shift work: weekends/stat holidays
  • Hold a Transport Canada Restricted Area Identification Card (*RAIC* )
  • 5 years airline operational experience preferred
  • Proficient in PC based applications; Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to work on a permanent basis in Canada (either Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant)
  • Must possess a full unrestricted driver’s licence and provide a clean driver’s abstract
  • Must be able to obtain Transport Canada security clearance which includes an extensive check of your last 5 years of employment, criminal record and residential history.

  • Able to lift heavy objects weighing up to 75 pounds on a regular basis

  • Must be able to work outside in all types of weather and elevated noise levels within the airport environment
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • The Operations Manager will be provided with applicable training
  • Actively participate in SA’s Safety Management System including reporting hazards and incidents encountered
  • Focus on safety awareness and training
