SAFETY INVESTIGATOR
The Safety Investigator is responsible to investigate safety files as assigned by the Manager, Safety and Security. The Safety Investigator is also responsible to assist operational departments conduct risk assessments, and track/validate the effectiveness of corrective actions plans.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
· Conducts accident/incident investigations in accordance with described process in the Encore Safety Manual (ESM)
· Investigative assignments will include files relating to: Flight Safety, Airport Safety, Inflight Safety, Maintenance Safety, and OH&S
· Conducts safety auditing of airport operations
· Conducts follow up on all safety concerns reported to the WestJet Encore safety department and operational management
· Obtains and reviews aircrew, air traffic control, weather data and aircraft maintenance history
· Ensures investigation actions are accurately documented in the company safety database
· Trending of occurrences in the company safety database
· Recommends, tracks and verifies the effectiveness of corrective action plans
· Notifies the Manager, Safety and Security and the responsible manager immediately if a regulatory violation is discovered during the course of an investigation
· Liaises with Maintenance Quality Assurance Auditors when maintenance compliance issues are detected to ensure they are captured with the appropriate Corrective Action Plan (CAP)
· Assists with and/or conducts proactive risk assessments
· Attends, participates and/or leads workplace health and safety committees meetings
· Act on behalf of the Manager, Safety and Security in his absence, including; carrying out daily responsibilities including but not limited to liaising with Transportation Safety Board of Canada and immediate escalation of any significant risk to safe flight operations.
· Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager, Safety and Security
REQUIREMENTS:
· Holds or has held an AME license or Pilot license preferred
· Aviation/technical diploma or equivalent combination of education/experience
· Formal accident/incident investigator training preferred
· Technical Operations/Flight Operations and/or Airports below the wing experience
· Experience participating in and leading OH&S committees
· Strong knowledge of CARs relating to airline operations, airworthiness, and SMS preferred
· Excellent communication skills – both written and oral
· Ability to prioritize quickly and efficiently
· Ability to travel at short notice
