Airport Attendant – Lynn Lake Airport (Internship)
Summary: CYYL is
the gateway to northwest Manitoba and central Nunavut for opening up resources
(mining), for tourism (lodges) and for providing social services. YYL Airport
Inc. has leased the airport from the Town with an option to purchase. The YYL
Inc. business model is to be a partner in the air transport supply chain, first
winning back the business that has been lost in recent years, partnering with
operators in new ventures, developing a proving ground for UAS and a technology
demonstration program for hybrid airships, while positioning for the
anticipated resurgence in the mining industry.
The airport attendant will be
directly involved, supporting the airport manager, in these initiatives. The position requires
occasional overtime, weekend and call‐out work.
The Airport Attendant may be called upon to perform any of the following duties
of the Airport Manager, under his supervision and direction. By the later
stages of the work Term, the Attendant may be called upon to perform these
duties of the Airport Manager in his absence.
Administrative Duties:
ü Maintain accurate records, generate reports, and cash control for
all
airport facilities as required by
regulation and/or policy, on an ongoing/monthly/annual basis.
ü Maintain, and amend as
necessary, all
required documentation, manuals, and
policies required for the operation of a Certified Airport (including the airport’s
Safety Management System, Emergency
Management Plan, and Wildlife Management Plan
etc.)
ü Carry out all duties as directed by the Airport Operations Manual (AOM), and CARs to ensure compliance
with all applicable Federal and Provincial
regulations to maintain certification and legal operation of the airport.
ü Maintain work records, maintenance repair logs, vehicle
inspection forms, daily work logs,
Transport Canada inspection records
and any other relevant
documentation.
ü Issue Notices to Airmen (NOTAM) or a Direct Notice
to Pilots report any activity
or conditions affecting aviation safety
at the airport.
ü Completing daily inspection records, noting all
discrepancies and initiating corrective action.
ü Supporting the Airport’s Safety Management System
ü Actively promote the Lynn Lake
Airport and its partner businesses
including maintenance of the Web Site
and responding to queries
Airside Duties
ü Runway condition reporting during the winter and summer months involving
use of decelerometer.
ü Load bearing surface evaluation involving
daily inspection of the
runway, taxiway and
apron for damage or foreign objects
and removing / repairing accordingly.
ü Removal of snow
and ice – friction index
testing as required.
ü Grass cutting, fertilizing, pruning or reseeding and preventing the uncontrolled
growth of brush in critical areas of the airport.
ü Maintaining airport facilities and buildings in a professional
manner.
ü Wildlife control and removal.
ü Inspection and maintenance of runway lights, approach lighting
and
systems including
PAPIs, rotating beacon and clearance lights.
ü Carry out maintenance and minor repairs of asphalt pavement and gravel surface runways, taxiways
and aprons.
ü Ensure Obstacle Limitation Surfaces
(OLS) are not impeded
by obstacles such as
trees, towers, buildings, etc.
ü Operate a variety
of mobile and heavy equipment including: plow truck, runway
sweeper, snow blowers,
front end loaders, tractor/mower
and other service vehicles.
ü Supervise
contracted service providers working at the airport.
ü
Other
duties required from time to time
in relation to the safe and
efficient operation of the
airport.
Customer Service
ü Assist
air crews in re-fuelling, parking and loading aircraft.
ü Assist
in processing passengers, receiving, catering and general hospitality.
ü Assist with special projects and
events where relevant.
Job Requirements:-
ü Restricted Radio Operators License.
ü Completion
of Grade 12. Post‐secondary education
in airport/aviation management preferred.
ü Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
ü Equipment Operation experience is an asset (Training
provided as required)
ü Ability to work in a variety of weather
conditions.
ü Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite;
web site development and marketing an asset.
Compensation:-
1st year co-op - $12.50
(includes 10% premium for northern allowance)
2nd year co-op - $13.50
Final Year co-op - $14.50

NB: YYL will consider an Airport Operations graduate as it is
an internship period of four months with the possibility of a longer duration
if things go well.
