Fulltime- Airfield Maintenance Specialist, Job ID: 11219 - Fort Simpson
The mandate of the Department of Transportation, Government of the
Northwest Territories is to plan, design, construct or reconstruct, acquire,
operate and maintain public transportation infrastructure in the NWT, including
community airports, docks and the highway system, and to regulate and license
individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.
The Department is responsible for a transportation system that consists
of 2,200 kilometres of all-weather highway, 1,450 kilometres of publicly
constructed winter roads, five ferry and ice crossings and 27 community
airports.

This position is located at the Fort Simpson Airport and reports to the
Supervisor, Surface and Mobile. The
Airfield Maintenance Spcialist maintains all airport surfaces, including
runways, taxiways, aprons and roadways.
The duties of the Airfield Maintenance Specialist include winter snow
removal, runway surface condition reporting, roadway and drainage ditch
grading, asphalt crack sealing, line painting and jet sealing.
The knowledge, skills and abilities requires thorough knowledge of
airport operations and procedures for maintenance of airport facilities, such
as snow and ice control. This is
obtained through the mandatory Airfield Maintenance Training Syllabus, which
takes one to two years to complete.
Prior education should be at a Grade 12 level. In addition to the above specific training,
position requires the following licenses and certificates;
• Valid Class 3 Driver's License (Mandatory)
• Airbrake Certification• Restricted Radio Operator's License
• WHMIS Certification
• First Aid and CPR Certification
Typically, the above qualifications would be obtained by previous managerial experience, courses in wildlife control, minimum of 2 years airport experience, minimum of 5 years equipment operating experience, experience operating airport equipment and the ability to run and operator an electronic recording decelerometer.
A mandatory requirement for this position is a valid Class 3 Driver's
License with air endorsement.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Salary Information - The salary for this position starts at $32.73 per
hour (approximately $68,078 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of
$10,310.
