The Occupational Health & Safety Officer, Aviation is responsible for occupational health and safety in the Summit Aviation Group that falls outside of the Safety Management System (SMS), and assists front line supervisors to achieve the corporate goal of zero lost time incidents. This position has a hands-on role in the management of health and safety related activities and events, and also acts as a resource to managers to assist them in fulfilling their health and safety responsibilities.

Responsibilities
- • Ensures adherence to Occupational Health and Safety, Canada Labour Code Part II, WSCC, COR Standard, and Aviation Health and Safety regulations as outlined in Transport Canada regulations
- • Manages WSCC claims and reports
- • Conducts daily hazard walk-arounds, hangar and float plane base inspections, and other related tasks
- • Prepares agenda for GO Toolbox meetings
- • In coordination with the PMSMS Manager, ensures employees are familiar with responsibilities and requirements of the SMS program, including company Emergency Response Plan
- • Conducts annual Certificate of Recognition (COR) audits and develop and implement CAPs
- • Leads the Safety Committee for Summit Air and Summit Helicopters, and posts meeting minutes as required
- • Monitors the aviation industry to identify safety concerns that will directly impact the operation of Summit Air and Summit Helicopters
- • Ensures policies and procedures are in place to support, monitor, audit and improve overall safety
- • Investigates, analyzes, and identifies the cause or probable cause of all hazards, incidents, and accidents and their respective corrective actions
- • Monitors and analyzes trends in hazards, incidents, and accidents
- • Reports any deficiencies to senior management
- • Coordinates the corporate Drug & Alcohol Program through the VP, HS&E Summit Air Group
- • May perform other related duties as assigned
- • 3-5 years of experience in a safety-related role; aviation experience is preferred
- • Related post-secondary HSE degrees, diplomas and/or certifications will be considered an asset
- • Technical knowledge of the transportation and aviation industry
- • Experience with providing solutions based on clearly defined procedures outlined in OH&S requirements
- • Proficiency with MS Office, particularly Word and Excel
- • Above average problem solving skills, and the ability to make decisions based on regulations
- • Excellent communication skills for conveying crucial and time-sensitive health and safety information to employees and other stakeholders
- • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all employee and Summit matters
- • Energetic self-starter with the ability to work independently
- • Travel to various operational bases will be required
