Title: CANN Frontline Supervisor

Nature: Fulltime. The CANN Frontline Supervisor supervises airport reception activities, provides information, orientation and referrals to newcomers upon arrivals at the Vancouver International Airport. This includes facilitating the landing process for government-assisted and privately-sponsored refugees.
Reports to: Program Manager CANN
Duties:
1. Supervises frontline airport reception activities.
2. Conducts needs assessment and provides information, orientation, and referral.
3. Conducts traffic control and facilitates landing process
4. Uses various platforms to provide client-centered orientation and information services to newcomers.
5. Keeps up to date on and promote national settlement, community, and government services and events to newcomers.
6. Provides services to refugees including assistance in landing procedures, meals, clothing issuance, interpretation, transportation to temporary residence, overnight stay and connecting flights.
7. Addresses emergency and unexpected needs of refugees upon arrival and liaises with appropriate authorities to ensure client needs are met.
8. Communicates with CBSA and YVR personnel as necessary to facilitate reception services.
9. Stocks up bulk deliveries of written resource materials and refugee items (i.e. CIC’s Welcome to Canada guidebook, government publications, and refugee items).
10. Works a flexible schedule during the hours of operation and is available to work extended hours/shifts depending on service needs.
11. Provides input in the development of CANN publications (written and electronic) and translates resources for newcomers.
12. Ensures staff adhere to the work schedule; based on daily service needs, and provides input on scheduling.
13. Provides input and assistance in program development and improving program service outcomes.
14. Liaises with community, settlement, and government agencies to ensure provision of accurate and detailed information to newcomers.
15. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Undergraduate degree in social sciences or a related discipline
2. 2 – 3 years supervisory experience in a team environment; strong leadership and team management skills
3. 2 – 3 years’ experience in a social services related sector; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
4. Experience working with diverse clientele.
5. Extensive knowledge of settlement and integration; services and programs for newcomers; immigration trends and polices; and resources for newcomers.
6. Detail oriented, highly organized and self-motivated.
7. Committed to providing client-centered quality service, excellent team player, and able to multi-task.
8. Strong verbal and interpersonal skills and capable of supervising a diverse team.
9. Fluent in English and relevant second languages (speak, read, write, and type).
10. Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, databases, and website development and maintenance.
11. Sound knowledge of utilizing the internet to access and search information; on line communication technologies; and various electronic platforms (tablet, mobile devices, electronic kiosk).
12. Able to respond quickly to new or changing work demands.
13. Creative and passionate about working with newcomers to enhance settlement and integration.
14. Good physical fitness and health (this position requires extensive periods of standing and walking).
15. Available to work a flexible schedule (including early morning, afternoons, evenings, weekends, extended hours, split shifts, and on short notice as necessary).
16. Able to carry and cell phone and respond to urgent calls outside of scheduled work hours.
17. Clear criminal record check and airport security clearance required.
Duration: Sept 15, 2014 – March 31, 2015 (continuation subject to funding availability)
Salary: Starting rate $23.64 – 26.60/hour + shift premium. Benefit package upon successful 3 month probationary period.
