Transportation Programs Officer - North

Reporting to the Manager, Transportation Programs North Baffin, the Transportation Programs Officer provides functional direction to ensure safe, effective and efficient management and operation of airport facilities and services and oversees wharf and harbor maintenance for communities assigned in the northern Baffin region.

The role of the Department of Economic Development and Transportation (EDT) is to respond to economic development opportunities in Nunavut, so that Nunavummiut participate fully in the benefits of economic growth. The department fulfils this role by: supporting the growth of specific economic sectors, including mining, tourism and cultural industries; helping to build capacity in our communities including business development; and maintaining and expanding a safe, secure and efficient transportation system, including airports, harbours and roads.

The successful candidate will have:
  • A degree or diploma from a University or College in Airport Management, Transportation Planning, Transportation Engineering or Transportation Systems Management 
  • Knowledge of airport operational systems, including aviation services, facilities, equipment and procedures 
  • Knowledge of Nunavut’s Docks and Harbors program 
  • Knowledge of land, air and marine transportation statues, regulations, standards and recommended practices 
  • Strong Computer Skills 
  • The successful candidate will be required to submit a satisfactory Criminal Records Check and proof of LEVEL II Secret Security Clearance. 

Equivalencies that consist of a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities to formal education and experience requirements will be considered.
