Position Overview | Reporting to the Chair, School of Aviation and located at the Peterborough Aviation Campus, the Professor will be responsible for providing academic leadership and developing an effective learning environment for students through designing, revising and delivering curricula. The Professor will also be responsible for developing subject and program objectives, defining and evaluating learning outcomes and developing/selecting appropriate learning materials for the Aviation Operations and Aviation Safety Diploma programs. The Professor will teach subjects in his/her areas of expertise, provide academic and career counseling to students, and evaluate student performance. The Professor will participate in the work of curriculum, program advisory and other committees through consultation with business and industry representatives. The Professor will support student recruitment, student retention and industry outreach. |
Responsibilities | The Professor will be responsible for teaching courses across the program and may also be called upon to contribute to other areas of activity ancillary to the academic programs of the School including: simulator instruction; evaluating student progress; consulting with aviation coordinators regarding student progress and instructional effectiveness; assisting with program review; and classroom teaching. |
Qualifications | • A completed Bachelor’s Degree is required. • Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL), and Class I or II Flight Instructor with multi-engine and instrument training experience and experience as an examiner and/or check pilot. • Minimum 5 years teaching or training experience at the post-secondary level. • Hands-on industry experience (airline or military) in the practical application of the concepts being taught. • Highly organized and able to work independently and collaboratively. • Excellent communication, leadership and human relation skills are essential to interact effectively with the College’s multi-cultural/racial/able student and staff population. • Understanding of and commitment to education equity. • The ability to convey the conceptual and practical applications of aviation subjects to students, respecting their diverse backgrounds, experience and individual learning styles is necessary. |
