JOB OPPORTUNITY - Fire Fighter

Opportunity: 1 year term Fire Fighter. Subsequent successful candidates will also be added to an Eligibility List for anticipated future openings in our Fire Fighter Department.

Duties: Responsible for fire fighting, rescue, emergency medical and other related services frequently involving considerable hazards. Responsible for rapidly, efficiently and safely performing various duties under emergency conditions involving escape routes for the evacuation of passengers, crew and all other occupants to prevent loss of life or further injury from any cause. In the event of a structural fire, initiates fire suppression activities and assists in the evacuation and rescue duties. Participates in and attends on-going fire fighting training program. Carries out fire prevention and safety activities and is responsible for routine maintenance of fire fighting and rescue equipment.

Education:

• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Completion of NFPA 1001 Level I & II and/or Current CARS Certification to 323.14
• Minimum EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) and ability to obtain a Province of Manitoba Technician licence provided by MB Health within 90 days of date of hire
• Standard first aid and CPR HCP
• NFPA 472 Haz-Mat Ops
• ICS 100

Requirements:

• Ability to work in a team environment as well as individually
• Ability to react quickly and remain calm under stressful situations
• Must be able to pass fire fighter physical, vision (colour), and medical requirements
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated skills of Windows 7 and Office 2010 (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
• Active participation in recurrent training program
• Must obtain a valid Class 3 driver’s licence with air brake endorsement within 90 days of hire
• Driving abstract demonstrating responsible and safe driving record
• Ability to obtain a restricted radio/telephone licence
• Ability to work shift work

Experience:

• Preference will be given to candidates who have experience and/or training with fire fighting and/or emergency procedures
• Applicant must demonstrate knowledge by completing an aptitude test and physical ability by completing a job related fitness test 

Condition of employment is the ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identification Card.
