Deicing Movement Coordinator
Greater Toronto Airports Authority - Toronto, ON
Full-time, Permanent
Reporting to the Shift Manager, Deicing Operations, this position facilitates the safe and expeditious movement of aircraft and airport traffic on and through Deicing facilities operated by the GTAA by locating and identifying aircraft that require Deicing, parking and/or transiting through the facility. The successful incumbent will provide GTAA Deicing capacity data for inclement weather events to the airport community and the Manager, Operations – Aviation Services.

Job Description
Key Accountabilities: 
  • Organizing and managing movements through direct instructions to pilots, tows, helicopters and various vehicles and providing advisory information to pilots ensuring aircraft remain clear of one another
  • Compiling written and electronic data, documentation of aircraft movements, deicing information, and other pertinent matters affecting deicing and airport operations
  • Managing the safe and expeditious flow of aircraft into, through and exiting deicing facilities operated by the GTAA to ensure adherence to airport traffic flow
  • Conducting on the job training, providing instruction, guidance, assessment and feedback of the quality of work,
  • Responsible for trainee’s actions and preparing training reports and debriefings
  • Operating computer equipment as required, message boards, cameras and all related visual equipment
  • Directing and being responsible for all deicing operations within the assigned bays
  • Operating Bay Management Software and be responsible for all bay assignment for aircraft coming to the Central Deicing Facility, during deicing operations
  • Communicating with all other Ice House personnel, airlines and all related outside Agencies as required
  • Coaching and identifying training as required and undergoing recurrent training as required
  • Generating and maintaining record logs, written and automated.
  • Conducting visual quality control audits on deicing operation
  • Communicating anomalies, incidents and emergencies to pad operators and cab staff as required
  • Performing security Escort duties as required in non-deicing periods at the airport.
  • Leads and participates in the development and implementation of training and operational plans, programs, enhancements and efficiency improvements to maximize facility and resource utilization and safety.
  • Other duties as required

Job Requirements
Qualifications: 
  • Must possess a post-secondary school Diploma or Degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Must have 5 years’ experience in airport or airline operations
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of Apron Advisory Services, ATC, FSS, Flight Dispatch or flying experience would be a distinct asset.
  • Experience in aircraft deicing operations is considered an asset
  • Experience in writing reports is a distinct asset
  • Must possess a valid Transport Canada Aeronautical Restricted Radio Operator Permit
  • Valid Provincial Driver’s G License Required
  • Must be able to successfully complete (annual) Deicing Movement Controller and Aircraft Deicing Specialist training and qualifications
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a Transport Security Clearance
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
  • Knowledge of the rules, procedures, techniques and equipment (MLAT, EXCDS, NARDS, BMS, ADCS)
  • Detailed knowledge of the topography and layout of Terminal aprons, taxiways, and runways; runway taxiway combinations used by Air Traffic Control
  • Knowledge of the operating characteristics, dimensions, capacities and turning radius of aircraft
  • Specific knowledge of Transport Canada regulations related aircraft movement and ground deicing procedures including but not limited to TP14052
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with members of other organizations
  • Ability to analyze operational situations and make accurate decisions in a high stress environment.
  • Ability to work rotational shift work (days, nights and weekends)
