United Ramp Incorporated is a growing company providing Airline Ground Handling, Cargo & Passenger Services to a wide range of Airlines and Airports in Western Canada. We are searching for a strong leader for our Airline Ground Handling Operations at the Nanaimo Airport.
The successful applicant must have airline ground handling experience, display a high level of organizational skills and be capable of leading, directing and fully supporting an airport ground handling service team. The applicant will work alongside the team to maintain efficiencies and opportunities for improvement, resulting in engaged employees, a dynamic succession plan, and a safe and successful operation.

Key Responsibilities: 
Safety & Emergency Response:
  • Provide safety leadership by ensuring safety and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) awareness is foremost in every aspect of the operation.
  • Ensure our Safety Culture is encouraged and support throughout all aspects of the operation.
  • Ensure all safety/operational audits are complete, corrective actions taken, documented and closed in the required timeline.
  • Ensure operational changes identified by Health & Safety and Environmental committees are implemented and documented.
  • Perform duties in accordance with established policies and procedures while giving primary consideration to personal safety, the safety of co-workers and customers.
Operational Performance:
  • Support a high level of safety and service excellence for your teams operations
  • Lead the airport team to meet or exceed all operational targets ensuring the Safety, fiscal goals and SLA targets are achieved throughout operations.
  • Ensure service standards are met and/or exceeded
  • Monitor and recommend corrective action to meet targets
  • Ensure GSE meets standard to ensure a high level of operational performance.
  • Participate in all daily, weekly and monthly departmental calls/meetings as required.
  • Lead regular operational briefings and meetings with documented minutes and follow up action plans.
  • Provide feedback and reporting to directors and department heads to achieve
Leadership & Human Resources:
  • Demonstrate strong management/leadership abilities, team building and administration; build a strong front line team focused on productivity while enhancing employee and customer satisfaction
  • Understand, support and communicate departmental/corporate direction in a timely manner.
  • Create an open, honest and supportive work environment; promote teamwork and collaboration will all members of the URI team.
  • Take corrective/disciplinary actions when necessary
  • Oversee and provide training for all front line staff to ensure they are compliant with all corporate, customer and regulatory procedures, policies and requirements.
  • Lead and facilitate team building, problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Oversee work performance to ensure staff meet corporate objectives and conduct annual performance reviews
  • Recruit and select new team members as required.
Financial Performance:
  • Oversee manpower plans and costs, equipment and facility requirements to meet all Safe Operational goals.
  • Manage and control departmental expenditures/finance within established budget and timelines.
  • Seek out and secure new business opportunities.
Qualifications:
  • Candidate must have prior work experience in airline ground handling operations at various levels and also be familiar with ground support equipment fleets.
  • Minimum 3 years management experience required.
  • Update and maintain comprehensive reports and records.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to successful meet targets and goals
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products including but not limited to MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet Explorer.
  • Competent in communication and presentation skills, leadership and teamwork.
  • Applicants must have a high tolerance for ambiguity.
  • Able to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays if required
  • Willingness and ability to travel and on call 24/7.
  • All other duties as assigned
Assets:
  • Post-Secondary Business Management degree or equivalent management experience an asset.
  • Financial analysis experience.
  • Proven leadership experience managing large employee group in an Airline Ground Handling operation.
Position provides excellent salary, benefits and bonus program. Salary will be determined based on experience and performance. Selection will be based on candidate qualifications, company requirements and individual assessment results.
