Manager, Stakeholder Relations

Reporting to the Director, Public Affairs and Stakeholder Relations, this position is responsible for two key areas:
1) Building community trust and vocal champions for Toronto Pearson’s Regional Airports Strategy through advocacy, government relations and public affairs stakeholder program development and delivery and engagement.
2) Supporting the President & CEO in his role as incoming Chair of the Canadian Airports Council of Canada as well as other responsibilities tied to the Office of the President.
The successful incumbent will be required to regularly engage with governments and key business and aviation industry stakeholders on issues of strategic importance to the GTAA.
The salary for this management non-unionized position is competitive based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and its slotting as Professional Support Level 2, Grade 8 in the GTAA salary administration program.

Job Description
  • Develop and maintain strong and effective relationships with government officials (elected and non-elected) and key public affairs influencers (boards of trade, industry groups, etc.) to enhance awareness, understanding and engagement in the Regional Airports and Ground Transportation Strategy through the development and execution of coordinated public affairs and issues management plan.
  • Monitor government agendas and activities and identify risks, opportunities and issues relevant to the GTAA’s business goals and objectives for the long-term development of a regional system of airports.
  • Policy analysis to determine relevance to the GTAA.
  • Engagement of regional airports and other stakeholders in building community and local government support, as well as to raise awareness of economic benefits of regional airports in southern Ontario and the need to invest in transportation infrastructure to support.
  • Support the President & CEO in his role as incoming Chair of the Canadian Airports Council. This will include briefing the President & CEO on all agenda items, attending conference calls and taking minutes, providing updates on meetings to relevant GTAA executives and ensuring appropriate action is undertaken, and coordinating with internal colleagues who participate in CAC activities.
  • Supporting the President & CEO with correspondence, creating briefing notes for key meetings and ad hoc presentation materials.
  • Delivering any additional project support to the President & CEO as required.
  • Develop, monitor and maintain logs, database, records, chronicling issues, actions taken and results.
  • Represent company and Toronto Pearson community in government and industry consultations/initiatives/committees and working groups.
  • Public Affairs issues management, conflict resolution and stakeholder relations management
  • May be put on the IMS on-call rotation to cover 365/24/7
  • Responsible for being a customer centric Leader with respect to the Mission, Vision, Values and Beliefs

Job Requirements
Qualifications:
• Post-Secondary degree in political studies, communication, or a related field
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in stakeholder or government relations or in a government/political office
• Demonstrated experience working in a customer centric environment
• Industry experience in aviation, airline and transportation is considered an asset
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in People Management directly or indirectly through cross-functional teams
• Must have a valid Ontario G Driver's License
• Must be able to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of airport and the aviation industry is an asset
• Understand how government policy is developed and how decisions are made
• Demonstrated ability to influence, collaborate and negotiate cross functionally in a unionized environment, as well as with external stakeholders and government to achieve results
• Demonstrated ability in building strategy and to think strategically about complex and multi-faceted issues
• Excellent presentation and writing skills
• Project management skills
• Excellent communication skills to effectively reach a broad audience of internal and external customers, guests and other key stakeholders
• Experience working with C-suite or senior level politicians to provide counsel and support
• Ability to work with diplomacy and tact and provide good judgment
• Strong decision-making skills and the ability to influence
• Ability to work in a fast-paced ever-changing environment
• Ability to work additional hours (evenings and weekends)
