Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Data, the incumbent is responsible for updating and maintaining Engineering Data GIS airport GIS based, building, site, and utility data and associated information.
Job Description
- Updates and maintains the integrity of airport GIS based, building, site and utility data and associated information
- Support technical GIS analysis activities including data inventory and assessment, derivative data products and support of special projects
- Build database SQL scripts and routines for creating new tables, materialized views, triggers, functions, procedures and loading or updating data
- Utilize CAD, GIS, Web and database development tools to maintain and develop the Engineering Data map and data publishing web sites
- Design Entity Relationship models and final database designs that provide required application and end user functionality
- Provide first level support for all Engineering Data databases
- Liaise with consultants, contractors, and system maintenance groups to ensure all available data sources have been utilized to ensure complete updates to site and building data sets
- Use available GIS tools to audit the quality of updates to engineering data
- Stay abreast of ongoing construction projects at the airport and work closely with engineering staff to ensure data sets reflect current conditions
- Review project submissions of technical data and drawings for accuracies and compliance with GTAA co-ordinate system, standards and project scope
- Review updates made by internal or external contractors
- Solicit proposals from GTAA consultants to support various Engineering Data projects, including, drawing updates, spatial and tabular data integration projects, field verification and others
- Review Project Proposals and provide recommendations for work assignment including requirements for field surveys to support construction design, planning and other initiatives
- Advise Engineering Data staff, supervisors and manager of new advancements and functionality for document and records management applications and systems
- Provide business requirements to ITM/IBM regarding document management system functionality, storage, performance, data backup, and security
- Support ITM/IBM in technical support of the GTAA technical document management system including: Creating new and removing old user accounts
- Ensure that access requirements to the system for Engineering and Development are met
- Implement new application functionality and enhancements that will improve efficiencies
- Report and make recommendations to the Senior GIS Technologist for upgrade paths, software changes or enhancements
- Test software prior to upgrades and recommend enhancements or modifications to standards or work flows
- Participate in and direct teams comprised of staff and contractors in implementing larger objectives of Engineering Data’s core services supporting data maintenance, data publishing and document management
Job Requirements Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Able to effectively extract, utilize and maintain data stored in GIS systems and formats:
- Oracle Spatial
- GeoDatabases
- Web Map Services (WMS) and Web Feature Services (WFS)
- Strong knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) and associated database administration software applications with the ability to build database SQL scripts and routines for creating new tables, materialized views, triggers, functions, procedures and loading or updating data.
- Strong experience in web page development, including familiarity with Microsoft IIS services, .Net, ASP, JSP, HTML, XML and other web based formats and languages and, or programming experience with Microsoft Visual Studio, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), JAVA, and or other recognized programming and scripting languages.
- Strong experience converting data between CAD and GIS data formats
- Familiar with specialized image processing applications for remotely sensed data
- Able to validate and transform spatial data in different co-ordinate systems
- Knowledge of record, document and data management techniques and systems
- Strong experience in the use, configuration, and administration of:
- Computer Aided Drafting software (CAD)
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Document Management Systems (DMS)
- Geospatial data publishing technologies and software
- Familiar with Building Information modelling systems (BIM) and data formats
- Familiar with specialized image processing applications for remotely sensed data and with Building Information modelling systems (BIM) and data formats
- Strong knowledge in principles of Geographic Positioning Systems and other survey technologies and techniques
- Ability to conceptualize and plan data structures to facilitate effective storage of documents and data
- Ability to quickly review and become familiar with new business specific engineering applications for integration into existing workflows
- Familiar with computer equipment including desktops PCs, file, database and application servers, operating systems and standard, office software applications, (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Project, PowerPoint, Visio)
- Adapt to rapidly changing software, technologies and data formats associated with programming, data bases, CAD and GIS
- Good aptitude for mathematics to deal with concepts of coordinate geometry including co-ordinate systems
