The Vancouver Airport Authority has a full-time permanent opportunity for an Environmental Analyst (Noise Management) . Reporting to the Manager, Environment, and working with the Supervisor, Noise Abatement & Air Quality, the successful candidate is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of all strategies to reduce aircraft noise exposure and further improving the performance of the YVR Aeronautical Noise Management Program.
Key responsibilities include:
- Applying and interpreting acoustical measurement techniques, acoustical modeling, data acquisition and related instrumentation to prepare studies to objectively assess noise impacts caused by changes to aircraft or airport operations
- Monitoring aircraft noise and airlines’ compliance with Canadian Aviation Regulations, airport procedures and directives
- Maintaining and ensuring accuracy of data collected by the Aircraft Noise & Operations Monitoring System, and assisting with maintenance and troubleshooting of the system
- Investigating and responding to public complaints in an efficient and professional manner
- Liaising with airport customers, air traffic control, public/government agencies, working committees and local community groups
- Attending community meetings to assist in or make presentations regarding noise abatement and mitigating issues
- Preparing comprehensive studies, reports and presentations required to explain and quantify aircraft and airport noise and operational activities for both the public and internal management
- Developing terms of reference for studies and managing outside consultants as required
- Developing and maintaining databases to manage a wide variety of environmental and operational information
- Utilizing the Transport Canada Noise Exposure Forecast (NEF) and/or the US Federal Aviation Administration Integrated Noise Model (INM) noise modeling software to evaluate aircraft noise impacts
Key qualifications include:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Science, Environmental Science, or related degree coupled with demonstrated commensurate technical experience.
- Experience with noise measurement and assessment, as well as noise and technical report preparation and environmental communication
- Advanced analytical and computer skills, including the use of word processing, spreadsheets and databases for Windows
- Proven experience with customers and dealing with the public
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated facilitation and project management experience
- Knowledge of airport noise control measures and familiarity with airport noise studies, including data collection and assessment metrics
The following would be assets:
- Knowledge of the commercial aviation business and strong interest in aviation
- Knowledge of airport, airline, aircraft and air traffic control operations
- Ability to recognize and differential aircraft types
- Experience or knowledge of GIS analysis
- Computer programming
- Pilot’s license
