The General Manager is responsible for executing the strategic and operational plan for YEG. Accountable for the overall leadership of the station from both an internal and external perspective, the General Manager (GM) will represent and influence stakeholders with a focus on Safely Performing On Time (SPOT), developing and supporting our people, and aggressively managing costs. The GM will be an enthusiastic and genuine leader who champions an environment where our people are able to deliver extraordinary results and a remarkable caring guest experience.

Responsibilities Include: 

•Ensure safety is first priority by relentlessly focusing on injury prevention and safe work practices

•With a continual focus on SPOT - create and maintain an environment for achieving aggressive operational goals and employee satisfaction targets through the development of a strong, dynamic, and effective leadership team and the empowerment of our people
•Accountable for performance related to safety, operational KPI’s, guest satisfaction and front line engagement

• Accountable for developing and maintaining a strong collaborative relationship with Inflight, Flight Ops, and Tech Ops so that YEG’s collective goals are met through solid teamwork in a non silo environment.
•Accountable for the performance of the contracted ground handler for safety, operational KPI’s and adherence to WestJet values and procedures
•Develop a yearly safety plan with leadership including Emergency Response, Audits, employee injuries and illness
•Model, guide and motivate front line leaders to achieve priorities and take actions to support WestJet’s Mission, Vision, and Values
•Develop and manage the annual business plan supporting corporate and airports strategic plans, budgets and key performance indicators
•Represent WestJet at a senior level with the Airport authority on strategic initiatives and advance planning
•Responsible to attend ACC meetings and build solid relationships with other airline leaders within the community and be seen as a leader by the community and airport authority.
•Strongly represent WestJet’s interests at a senior level with external agencies and business partners (i.e. CATSA, USCBP, Airport Authorities)
•Understand the key people issues within the airport and develop action plans for continuous improvement

•Recognize our people for their efforts in achieving a remarkable guest experience and be present and engaged with the front line on a daily basis
•Build relationships through open and honest communication, focusing on the development of direct reports through motivational coaching and mentorship
•Manage the business vertically and horizontally to ensure the messaging from our senior leaders is delivered in a timely and accurate manner

Qualifications: 

•7+ years leadership experience required in a customer service and operations focused environment
•Minimum 5 years business leadership experience in a large-scale operation (200+ direct/indirect employees) with a significant level of internal and external dependencies and relationships
•Proven track record leading a team to deliver superior customer service to a large volume of individual clients
•Possess strong business acumen in order to deliver departmental plans including budget
•Track record of developing effective leadership teams
•Post-secondary education with a business application is required
•Proven track record in leading business operations
•Excellent ability to multitask & handle changing priorities
•Ability to manage multiple leaders simultaneously
•Proficient in PC based applications, Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and Outlook.
•Comfortable presenting materials and reports to Director level leaders and above
