New Posting - Mount Royal University

Mount Royal University is currently recruiting a SMS/QA Manager

Job Description: As a result of the continued success of the Aviation Diploma and PPL programs, Mount Royal University’s Aviation Department is seeking an experienced aviation SMS and QA Manager to oversee the continued growth and development of our safety and quality assurance programs. The SMS/QA Manager would be responsible for the day-to-day management of the SMS program, as well as developing and administering a robust QA program.

We anticipate that this position could be filled in one of two ways:
• Part-Time (6 month contract initially): by someone who may be retired, or employed elsewhere in aviation, in which case we would expect an average 20 hour commitment each week, to be reassessed at the end of the six month contract. Or
• Full-Time (1 year contract, renewable): by someone who is also qualified as a flight instructor, who could fill the remaining hours of their week with instructional duties. (This situation would be preferable to MRU.)

** Please note: this is NOT primarily an instructing position. This is first and foremost a Safety Manager position. The successful candidate, if hired on a full time basis as explained above, should not expect to fly very often (maybe only 4 or 5 flights per week) **

Mount Royal University Aviation offers high quality instruction to students seeking a career in the airline industry. Our flight instructors not only teach in the aircraft, but also in the simulator and sometimes ground school classes. All instructors will be expected to teach lessons from PPL through to Multi-IFR, once they are appropriately trained, and to have some administrative responsibilities in addition to working on the flight line. We employ our instructors on a full-time (40 hr/week), salaried basis and we are open 7 days a week, year-round. As our students are generally busy with academic courses during the weekdays, we tend to work most during the evenings and weekends. Our instructors are a close-knit team of knowledgeable, personable and tireless individuals who ‘go the extra mile’ for our students. Come and join us!

Minimum Qualifications (SMS Manager):
• 2 yrs experience in a managing or supervisory role within a SMS system (preferably an aviation-related SMS system)

Minimum Qualifications (Flight Instructor):
• Class 3 Instructor Rating
• 500 hours total time
• 200 hours instructing time
• Multi-engine Rating
• Group 1 Instrument Rating

Preference will be given to applicants with any of the following:
• Experience working with aviation QA systems
• Experience setting up SMS or QA systems
• Fight experience (other than instructing)
• Class 2 or higher Instructor Rating
• Airline Transport Pilot License
• Multi/IFR teaching experience
• Aviation Degree or Diploma
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
• Aerobatic experience
• Garmin G1000 experience

Salary: Full time Mount Royal instructors are paid an annual salary commensurate with their qualifications and experience. Additionally, FT instructors receive: min 2 weeks paid vacation per year; Christmas/New Years off; a health care spending account and also earn free flight time in our aircraft for each month worked.
