RED DEER AIRPORT – MANAGER, SAFETY & SECURITY
Reporting to the Director of Airport Operations, the Manager of Safety & Security is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the Red Deer Regional Airport (RDRA) Safety Management System, Airport Security and Emergency Response Programs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Development, implementation and maintenance of the RDRA SMS program;
- Chairing the Airport Safety Committee to coordinate the exchange of safety information (including hazards, incidents and accidents) with aircraft operators, NAV Canada and tenants at the Airport;
- Leading and coordinating safety related investigations when appropriate;
- In consultation with Airport Staff, conducting risk analysis of hazards, incidents and accidents and determining corrective action required;
- Ensuring appropriate corrective action is taken in response to safety hazards, incidents and accidents;
- Keeping records of all safety related reports, incidents and accidents, and conducting trend analysis;
- Providing and coordinating safety promotion and communication with all Airport Staff and tenants;
- Ensuring the provision of adequate safety training for Airport Staff;
- Ensuring that safety audits are conducted when required;
- Measuring safety performance in relation to Airport Safety Goals and Objectives;
- Monitoring the airport and aviation industry for safety concerns that could affect the SMS and safety at the Airport;
- Annual reviews of the SMS, Safety Policy and Safety Objectives to determine their relevance, effectiveness and the need for possible revisions;
- Development, implementation and maintenance of the RDRA’s Emergency Response Plan; and
- Design, implement, monitor, revise and update security programs for RDRA to ensure compliance with all federal aviation regulations and directives regarding airport security.
Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of managing a Safety Management System in accordance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations;
- Solid business acumen and business improvement mindset to solution immediate issues and to identify trends, provide recommendations, plans and implement corrective actions;
- Excellent communication skills to effectively reach a broad audience of internal and external clients, guests and other key stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Aviation Studies, Airport Management or equivalent education;
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in an airport management, airport operations, airline operations and/or other relevant areas;
- Minimum 2 years’ experience with the Canadian Aviation Regulations and Safety Management Systems.
