New Posting - Vancouver Airport Authority

Vancouver Airport Authority has an opportunity for a permanent, full-time CAD (Computer Aided Design) Technician in the Engineering Services Department.  Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining Electrical Single Line Diagrams, as well as providing general CAD services for the Airport Authority, consultants and contractors. 



Key responsibilities include: 
  • Updating existing, and creating new, single line diagrams with information provided by electrical engineers, consultants and contractors
  • Drafting and plotting architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil and airport operational drawings
  • Conducting quality assurance checks of as-built drawings, ensuring that information is complete and accurate, while conforming to Technical Data Centre CAD standards
  • Understanding client requirements and collecting appropriate drawings and specifications for their needs; also, assisting in surveys to supply or confirm required data
  • Assigning and/or changing room numbers for all Airport Authority buildings and updating files
  • Maintaining work directories and recording files for quick and efficient retrieval
Key qualifications include:
  • Post-secondary Certificate or Diploma in Computer Aided Drafting, preferably with a focus on electrical drafting
  • At least two years’ drafting experience including experience working on large engineering projects or facilities. 
  • Extensive experience working with Electrical Single Line Diagrams
  • Knowledge of airport operations, aircraft and/or the aviation industry is an asset
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with a variety of CAD software; Single Line Diagram is maintained in AutoCAD, Microstation is the primary CAD program for general CAD services
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and other computer aided software packages including application and customization of CAD software; familiarity with Microstation is preferred
  • Proven experience operating a workstation, plotters and scanner
  • Knowledge of architectural, civil, electrical, mechanical and structural disciplines
  • Familiarity with ESRI GIS software is an asset
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office package
  • Knowledge and experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM) is preferred
