We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Manager, Environment . The Manager will be responsible for executing the Environmental Management Plan in alignment with YVR’s Strategic Plan and creating innovative new approaches to deliver on commitments and environmental targets.
Reporting to the Director, Environment the successful candidate will be responsible for guiding and mentoring a team of environmental professionals in developing, implementing and innovating environmental programs and other environmental strategies in line with achieving the organization’s strategic objectives, specifically to be a leader in sustainability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing support and direction to the Environment Team – this includes monitoring work efforts and performance, hiring, coaching, motivating and supporting developmental activities, conducting formal evaluations and applying appropriate discipline
- Developing and implementing programs, as well as, managing budgets, projects and consultants
- Monitoring, evaluating, improving and communicating the program goals and results, all while collaborating with airport employees and community representatives
- Leading and implementing programs, policy and projects related to the environment and sustainability. These include:
- Energy reduction initiatives
- Air quality and emissions
- Water quality and conservation
- Waste management and reduction
- Ecosystem health and environmental assessment
- Noise mitigation and management
- Sustainable transportation and cycling
- Environmental training and awareness
- Sustainability leadership
Key qualifications include:
- Dynamic and outgoing leader with a background in environmental management and an in-depth knowledge of sustainability issues
- 8 years of recent, related progressive experience supplemented by a university degree in science, environmental studies, engineering or other related field and considerable experience working in an environmental management setting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Extensive knowledge of federal, provincial, and local environmental legislation
- Well-developed critical thinking skills with the ability to influence acceptance and implement creative and innovative solutions
- Proven ability to deliver projects on time and on budget, manage consultants, and liaise with industry, government officials and the public
- Team player with exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills, including the ability to juggle and reprioritize based on business demands and priorities
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and experience managing and coaching teams for high performance
- Advanced knowledge and know-how of MS Office Suite and general computer applications
