OUR AIRPORT PLANNING TEAM
The Airport Planning team acts as an internal consultant to the various departments at YYC. We provide critical support, analysis and foresight to ensure sustainable development and operational efficiencies. We liaise with numerous internal and external stakeholders to ensure the development of groundside, airside and terminal infrastructure will meet the needs of our customers and be developed within aviation standards and guidelines as set out in numerous documents, regulations and agreements.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Airport Planner will advise and assist in developing the airport planning program and associated planning projects for the Springbank (YBW) and Calgary International Airport (YYC) that will subsequently help direct airport facility development and influence capital investment decisions. This program will require the preparation of various planning documents and undertaking planning studies and analyses of facility demand and capacity. Based on need, programmed solutions to meet facility shortfalls will be developed over short, medium and long term planning horizons. The work will include Airside, Groundside, Terminal Buildings and land development projects and facilities.



Reporting to the Manager, Airport Planning, this position will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Undertake operational planning assignments utilizing both static and dynamic analysis
  • Build and maintain computer simulation models of passenger terminal, airside and groundside flows to identify problem areas or assess proposed changes and propose solutions and mitigation measures
  • Collaborate with various departments to improve operational efficiencies, maximize revenues and minimize costs
  • Prepare reports and presentations on simulation results and maintain database of simulation inputs
  • Participate in passenger and aircraft forecasting initiatives including the preparation of nominal schedules
  • Responsible for the management, preparation and/or QA/QC of various airport planning studies
  • Prepare and provide comments on due diligence reports, development requests and design reviews to ensure all development on airport and surrounding areas is within the prescribed limits and standards as outlined in various Federal, Provincial and Municipal aerodrome standards, regulations and agreements
  • Assist in the development of concept plans and layouts using AutoCAD
  • Provide input to multiyear, multi-disciplined planning program: seek capital funding, engage consultants and manage contracts for a variety of airport concept plans, studies, analysis, and reports with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Liaise with other Airport Authority departments to define project requirements, concepts and funding requests to support the capital program and improve operational efficiencies
  • Work with consultants and stakeholders, both internal and external to determine requirements and develop conceptual plans, studies and reports and represent the Authority at various meetings and events
  • Support Manager, Airport Planning and Director, Planning with day to day tasks as assigned
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Strong knowledge base in the areas of airport planning, operations and design;
  • Strong analytical skills related to studying groundside, airfield and terminal capacity issues;
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant regulations and guidelines as they relate to airport planning and design;
  • Education in Airport Planning, Aviation Management or Civil Engineering with combined relevant job experience;
  • Proficient with Airport Simulation Software, MS Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point and AutoCAD
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders;
  • Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills are essential.

  • Strong organizational, follow-up and priority-setting skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced changing environment
  • Willingness and a strong drive to learn
  • Ability to present studies and findings and pitch ideas to large and diverse audiences
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)
WHAT ELSE
  • 5-10 years’ of relevant airport/aviation experience as well as excellent knowledge of airport operations
  • General and well balanced knowledge of disciplines including airport engineering, commercial development, land development and land use planning, municipal planning, transportation and traffic engineering, construction practices, utilities and services, storm water management and air service development
  • Proficient in ArcPORT modeling software
  • IAAE and/or IATA training courses considered an asset
