Surface Weather Observers work in Contract Weather Offices (CWO) throughout the provinces.
They provide the aviation sector with essential meteorological information by performing hourly weather observations and special observations to maintain current weather conditions. Aviation weather reports include cloud types, heights, and amounts, visibility, precipitation types and amounts, wind speed and direction, temperature and humidity information, atmospheric pressure information. These reports are transmitted and made available to a wide range of users.
There is no experience required for this position, all training is provided.*
Training:
The Surface Weather Observer training program is taught at the NAV Centre in Cornwall, ON
The training program is 6 weeks long - November 2020
The purpose of this program is to provide training relevant to the skills required to perform the duties of an Surface Weather Observer.
There is no cost to you for the training. While on course ATS provides your travel, accommodations and a small per diem to cover the cost of food and incidentals. There is no wage paid while on course.
All candidates must complete a short pre-test covering math and English.
Requirements:
- Available for rotational shift work (site is open 24/7)
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work location
* $300 signing bonus upon graduation and successful site certification
