Air Tindi is currently recruiting a Director of Flight Operations in Yellowknife.

 
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position reports to the Vice President of Operations and provides overall direction to the company flight operations department for the safe and efficient operation of all company aircraft. This role will be responsible for managing, directing, and evaluating all matters pertaining to flight operations including all operational programs and regulatory compliance.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.  Provide direction to the Chief Pilots and Flight Attendant Manager ensuring that all flight crews are familiar with the regulations and procedures pertaining to their duties including: the areas to be travelled, the airports and equipment to be used and the air navigation facilities to be utilized.
2.  Ensure overall compliance to all applicable legislations and may serve as a liaison with regulatory bodies on matters concerning flight operations.
3.  Supervise direct reports to ensure management of flight operations, cabin safety, crew scheduling/rostering, training programs and flight safety.
4.  Provide general guidance regarding staffing such as recruitment, selection, and retention activities.
5.  Manage staff performance including: mentor and coach; conduct annual performance reviews and assist with corrective action as required.
6.  Provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers. As a principal liaison with external customers, ensure quality service is provided and in particular for those activities that may affect flight operations.
7.  Provide leadership and direction with effective communication. Foster a teamwork environment: encourage employees to work collaboratively, ensure optimal information flow with all flight operational staff, and assist in team building initiatives.
8.  Involved with assessing and determining the need for new equipment and provide general direction regarding equipment requirements.
9.  Assist with ensuring the Company Emergency Response Plan provides contingency policies and processes in the event of an accident or emergency.
10.  Responsible for the preparation and management of the flight operations annual budget.
11.Identifies operations coordination functions which impact on operational control such as maintenance, crew scheduling, load control and equipment scheduling.
12.  Safety Management systems responsibilities as outlined in the SMS manual which include: participate in investigations, risk assessments, risk mitigation and corrective actions when assigned; encourage employees to become fully engaged in the SMS; ensure all staff are fully trained and aware of their responsibilities with respect to the SMS; communicate lessons learned and procedure changes; apply and document risk assessment and risk management strategies to any change in operations, process or procedures.
13.  All personnel are encouraged to be on the alert for hazards on the job. All personnel are responsible for the prompt and diligent reporting of all observed or suspected hazards.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
  • Knowledge of CAR’s
  • Any combination of education and experience that will provide the required skills and knowledge for successful performance.
  • Typical qualifications would be equivalent to a degree from an accredited educational facility with a major in Business Management.
Experience:
3-5 years Managerial experience.
 
Skills:
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to provide direction and guidance.
Ability to supervise and assess staff as well as train and motivate people.
Decisive decision making abilities and sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills .
Effective problem solver, influencer, able to make difficult decisions and deliver difficult messages, if necessary.
A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Excellent relationship and team-building skills.
Must exhibit strong internal customer relationship skills in employee relation issues.
Self-motivated complimented with high energy focused on satisfied customer service..
Ability to be flexible and quickly adapt to changing requirements, special assignments, and workload prioritization.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
Ability to support, strengthen and enhance safety initiatives.
