Job Description:
FUNCTION: Reporting to the Director, Safety, this position supports the safety program at Porter Airlines through the investigation and analysis of reported safety incidents and hazards. This position may also be required to audit the effectiveness of corrective action taken to remedy incidents and hazards. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct thorough investigation of reported safety incidents and hazards in consultation with departmental subject matter experts
• Define contributing and root causes of reported safety issues using root cause analysis tools
• Liaise with departmental managers to effect the necessary corrective action to safety incidents and hazards
• Audit the effectiveness of corrective action taken as required
• Complete thorough documentation of all evidence gathered during investigation, analysis and audit of safety issues
• Participate in the Porter safety management system
• Maintain the confidentiality of organizational safety reporting systems
• Participate in periodic departmental safety meetings
• Actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including, reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply and promote the Company Safety Policy
• Any other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
• University degree and/or acceptable combination of education, training and/or related work experience
• Knowledge of investigation and root cause analysis tools (i.e. Ishikawa, barrier/energy flow analysis)
• Familiarity with commercial flight operations and/or aircraft maintenance operations
• Strong knowledge of safety management system and/or occupational health and safety requirements
• Knowledge of auditing practices
• Excellent time management, written and verbal communication skills; keen attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and internet applications
• Ability to secure restricted airport security clearance
• Must maintain a valid passport and be able to travel when required
