From there I learned all about the different operations that took place at the airport and how many different opportunities there were.
At first I was nervous about moving to a different city and having to basically start over, but now I am sure happy I did. Nearing the end of my AOS 1 contract three job openings came up for the AOS 3 \ A.R.F.F position. I was lucky enough to get an interview and a job once it was all said and done. Now I am in the process of training to become an Airport Firefighter and AOS 3. Moving to Prince George and taking this season job turned out to be once of the best career opportunities I have ever had.
To be honest, one of the main reasons I got the AOS 3 job was because of my knowledge from BCIT. My manager is aware of the program and the benefits that graduates can bring to the table. The small things, that I can say now that I dreaded some days, such as TP312 and CARs, were the some of the keys to getting the job.
Prince George has turned out to be an amazing city, with HUGE opportunity in the future, not only with the city, but the airport as well. The airport has huge plans to expand and will definitely be hiring in the future.
If I could give one piece of advice to any BCIT graduate from the Airport Operations program, it would be not be afraid to take an opportunity out of the lower mainland. Even if it is a seasonal job, the skills and training you will recieve can be the key to making your resume stand out from the rest. I can honestly say though I would not be in the position I am without the BCIT Airport Operations Diploma.
