Description:
  • Under the direction of the Service Delivery Manager, the Security Specialist is responsible for directing and detecting persons exhibiting behavioral traits or other symptoms that may require additional screening services. The Security Specialist will assist in managing crowds prior to their entry to US Customs.
  • In addition, the Security Specialist will provide basic customer service in an environment that may be fast paced with competing priorities. The individual will work well unsupervised.

 Duties:
  • Detect adversaries  
  • Detect person(s) demonstrating suspicious behavior
  • Assist with managing crowds and controlling the movement of passengers
  • Assist with guiding passengers as needed
  • Report writing

Qualifications:
  • Superior conflict resolution and communication skills
  • Superior verbal English communication skills required  - Must be able to clearly communicate both orally and in writing in English or both official languages of Canada
  • Sound understanding of airport operations preferred
  • Basic Behavior Pattern Recognition/Observation skills
  • Sound understanding of Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005 Code of Conduct Ontario regulation 363/07
  • Understanding of Use of Force and powers of arrest
  • Law enforcement background an asset
  • Minimum education Grade 12
  • Licenced by the Province of Ontario and remain in good standing
  • Remain current in First Aid and CPR for the duration of employment
  • Strong preference to Transport Canada cleared individual
  • Strong preference to previous police officer, special constable, or military experience
  • Must have at least three (3) years experience in security
  • Good awareness of airport customer service levels
  • Be able to work as a team player
  • Be a Canadian resident for more than 5 years 

Additional Notes:
Must be certified initially and every two (2) years thereafter by a medical doctor to be in good general physical health according to the following criteria:
  • Having vision not less than 6/9 (20/30) with or without correction
  • Exhibiting normal colour perception
  • Possessing normal hearing with or without hearing aid(s), based on a whisper test from three (3) meters (9 feet)must be physically capable of walking at a brisk pace, running, and climbing stairs (in order to maintain surveillance); be in good overall general health.
