Candace McKibbon and Marcia Strang |
I started working at
YVR after I graduated from the Airport Operations Program at BCIT this past
February. I am working for a company called Marquise, which YVR contracts to
manage customer service, facilities, and operations at the airport.
I have two
roles with the Marquise, one as a Customer Service Ambassador—where I work on
the floor of the airport, assisting passengers at various points throughout the
airport including information counters. My other role is as an Operations
Centre Agent, where I work in YVR’s Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) to keep
people, bags, and planes moving. In the Operations Centre we are focused on
customer service, airport maintenance, and any irregular operations or
emergency. Both roles are very exciting.
I love my job(s), and
I know that they are setting me in the right direction for a career in aviation.
I enjoy working at YVR and I really like Marquise because
of the management and the different ways they are investing in me.
I would not
be here without the Airport Operations program, I can say that for sure. The
networking opportunities on top of everything we learned in the classroom have
really set me up to succeed in my career in the aviation industry. I use my
knowledge of ICS and CARs daily. I also find that understanding how airports
function really helps me in my job(s) now, and I know they will continue to
help me as I move into different roles at the airport. Thank you to everyone at
BCIT and YVR for helping me get here!
Note: Candace graduated in February of this year from Airport Operations Class 17...Congratulations Candace!
