POSITION SUMMARY:
Big Bend Community College is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves over 5,000 students annually, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,100, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams Counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms. 

The Aviation department has 5.5 faculty and a fleet of 26 aircraft. The department has been training aviation professionals since 1965 and has an excellent reputation for training career pilots to the highest skill standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specifically these duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following: 
• Provide on-campus lecture, lab and instruction in aviation theory. Teaching assignments are determined by college needs and/or the individual’s background and experience and may include day and evening/night classes.
• To be a contributing team member of the Big Bend Community College faculty, and to help build and maintain a quality aviation training program at Big Bend Community College.
• Conduct hands-on instruction for Commercial Pilot students including instrument, instructor, and related ground school classes. Teaching will be conducted in a traditional college classroom setting, simulators, and in airplanes.
• Maintain the integrity of the instructional sequence in the Commercial Pilot program. Work closely with other aviation instructor to maintain a coordinated instructional program.
• Develop and maintain competence in current aviation and educational technologies.
• Implement a current professional development plan.
• Be responsible for normal care of facilities, equipment, and supplies used for training.
• Assist in student advising and scheduling of student programs.
• Assist with normal non-flying flight line activities, including student flight recordkeeping.
• Support students’ academic success by maintaining regular office hours, advising students and providing service to students with special needs.
• Assist with program recruitment, including traveling to high schools, career fairs, and air shows.
• Evaluate, develop, or modify curriculum to reflect current standards of aviation.
• Participate as an active member of working committees dealing with instruction, college-wide and department assessment, student matters, and/or college related concerns.
• Work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and be a contributing member of the campus community; maintain positive and effective communications with students, faculty, administration and staff.
• Work effectively with industry leaders in both management and labor.
• Foster a flexible, healthy learning environment with respect for student diversity.
• Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth and development.
• Other duties as assigned in consultation with Dean.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At the time of application, all applicants must possess the following certifications, ratings and minimum experiences:
• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
• U.S. Commercial Pilot Certificate or higher
(a) Single and Multi-engine land (indicate dates of first issue)
(b) Instrument Airplane
(c) High-performance endorsement unless logged high-performance flight time as P.I.C. in a high performance airplane prior to August 4, 1997
(d) Complex endorsement unless logged flight time as P.I.C. in a complex airplane prior to August 4, 1997
(e) Meet the recent flight experience requirements of 61.56 and 61.57 to carry passengers and hold the minimum required instrument experience listed in 61.57 (c) or completed an instrument proficiency check within the last six months
• Current Flight Instructor Certificate
(a) Single engine and multi-engine (indicate dates of first issue)
(b) Instrument Airplane
• FAA Medical Certificate 
(a) Current (indicate date of current issue)
(b) No restrictions that would prevent performance of flight duties assigned by the College or performance of normal non-flying flight line activities
• One year actively employed as a full-time flight instructor in a FAA part 141 flight school
• Three years actively employed as a full-time pilot or flight instructor within the last five years 
• 3000 + total flight hours experience as "pilot in command"
• 1000 hours of dual flight instruction given as a flight instructor
• 100 hours of flight time under actual or simulated instrument conditions
• Other requirements:
(a) Finalists will be required to satisfactorily complete an evaluation/standardization check flight with the college's chief pilot
(b) Applicants must provide an authorized release permitting the college's chief pilot to examine the applicant’s FAA Accident/incident file. (This authorization is needed prior to the interview as it takes about a week for the FAA to process the request)

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
• Prior experience in the following aircraft: Sport, Sundowner, Bonanza F-33A, Travel Air, Cessna 180 floatplane, Piper Warrior III, Citabria, and Frasca 141 and Frasca 142 simulators
• Multi-Engine Instructor MEI
• Tail-wheel endorsement unless logged flight time as P.I.C. in a tail-wheel airplane prior to April 15, 1991
• Experience with KLN90B’s, Avidyne Entegra PFD, Garmin 430's
• Excellent computer skills, including experience using technology in the classroom
• International flight experience
• Meteorology teaching experience or aviation meteorology background
• Prior experience in turbo-prop aircraft
• Prior experience in jet aircraft
• Prior experience in aircraft capable of flight over 25,000 feet
• Prior recruitment experience
• High altitude endorsement or meet 61.31 (g)
• Demonstrated bicultural experience

• Two current letters of recommendation or a recent placement file containing at least two current letters of recommendation. All letters must have been written within the last year, be signed and dated, and be from a person having firsthand knowledge of the applicant’s professional qualifications. Letters should address how the applicant’s qualifications and experience relate to the position.

SALARY: 
The starting salary will be determined by placement on the BBCC salary index matrix (S.I.M.). The base salary shall be $43,343 with the opportunity of a higher placement on the matrix based on formal verification of relevant experience, credentials and/or degrees from accredited institutions. The contract is for 173 days as outlined in the Negotiated Agreement.
