Lauren Lee experiences de-icing wiht AeroMag |
This year the SWIFT Conference is being held in Vancouver from
September 15 - 18. SWIFT provides a
mechanism for the airport community to meet and learn about new pavement
design, construction, evaluation and maintenance techniques, materials,
chemicals, systems and equipment available for use in meeting the challenges of
keeping airports safe & operational, at minimal cost, during all
seasons.
The SWIFT Conference covers the following topics along with many other
new, innovative ideas to keep the airport industry on the cutting edge of
technology:
- Design, construction and maintenance of airport pavements
- Snow removal & ice control procedures & equipment
- Regulations as they relate to airfield operations & maintenance
- Measuring and reporting runway surface conditions
- Airline & other user perspectives on airfield operation & maintenance
- Anti-icing and de-icing chemicals and techniques
- Environmental issues related to airfields
Each year SWIFT provides one scholarship for an Airport Operations
student to attend the full conference as a delegate, and we congratulate Lauren
Lee as the SWIFT Ambassador Scholarship winner for 2014. Congratulations Lauren!
And, because the conference is held in Vancouver this year, all
students from Airport Operations Class 19 are able to participate by taking on
volunteer roles at the conference and trade show, which will allow them to meet
delegates from airports, support businesses and suppliers from around the
world. The conference aligns with
operations courses throughout the Airport Operations program, and will add to
the body of knowledge and understanding of winter airport operations.
