Manager, Business Planning and Analysis

Reporting to the Treasurer and specific business unit VPs, this role’s primary function is to provide financial and analytical support for following departments: Information Technology Management; Finance; People & Culture; Governance, Corporate Safety & Security, Stakeholder Relations, Strategy, and the CEOs office. This person is the key go to resource and business support partner for the departmental VPs for financial and analytical support for the annual operating plan, annual budget and periodic forecasts, expense variance analysis, business case development (including PADs for some groups), report development, data analysis, metric/KPI development and tracking, and ad-hoc requests. 

Job Description
Key Accountabilities: 
  • Provide leadership/management and coaching/mentoring to direct report(s)
  • Manage and oversee work performed by other business or finance personnel if/when project work led outside of this role
  • Oversee the budgeting and forecasting process coordinating with other finance roles, including development of Operating Plans
  • Manage the preparation of the monthly and quarterly financial reports
  • Perform variance analysis on actual versus budgeted results, and make recommendations for budget management/mitigation opportunities
  • Financial analysis and reporting to support senior management’s business performance
  • Develop and track metrics/KPIs/BPIs as required
  • Create and maintain financial models to support business planning and sound decision making
  • Prepare and communicate analyses, presentations, and business reports to finance and business leaders
  • Act as primary liaison between the business units and all other finance functions (all department support roles, planning, reporting, decision support, capital management, risk management, procurement, and controllers group)
  • Educate department leaders and staff on financial processes, procedures, calendars
  • Oversee the contract data
  • Manage information systems with responsibility for entry and accuracy of data
  • Lead and develop the department annual budget program including O&M and Capital
  • Manage and administer, financial performance, resource performance as it relates to meeting department goals and objectives
  • Control the preparation and reporting of contribution centre and profit centre financial budgets and forecasts
  • Prepare and analyse financial performance, create reports and presentations to explain variances and corrective actions needed to meet objectives
  • Oversee the continuous improvement initiatives, evaluate P&L reporting by expanding the cost allocation from other departments
  • Manage and resolve issues with accounting data as it relates to: billing, headcount and expense issues with appropriate GTAA department

Job Requirements
Qualifications 
  • University Degree with a business or financial analysis specialization or similarly related focus
  • Minimum 5 years of professional work experience in Finance/ Business analytics, Corporate Finance or a similar role.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience of direct people management within a similarly complex environment
  • Business Analyst certificate and/or working towards Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation is preferred and considered an asset
  • Demonstrated experience working in a customer centric environment
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance

  • Excellent proficiency with MS Office (Power Point, Word, Access, and Advanced Excel user)
  • Ability to proficiently work with and use databases, with working knowledge of Hyperion and Oracle or similar enterprise reporting databases
