Job Description
Reporting to the Director Operations, the Station Manager is responsible for a safe, smooth and efficient operation our Ground Handling airport base. The Station Manager performs an instrumental role as a leader in building and managing all facets of the Station Operation on a day to day basis. In this position, the Station Manager must ensure operational procedures are conducted in a safe, efficient and professional manner; provide senior leadership and maintain positive relationships with the direct reporting staff (Supervisors), the front line workforce, our customers and local authorities; the candidate must have several years of experience in all aspects of managing a large workforce and ground support equipment fleet; the ability to prepare and analyze Station budgets as well as workforce planning on an ongoing basis, is a must; previous experience in the aircraft ground handling field at a Management level will be essential to the selection of the successful candidate.
Qualifications
- The Station Manager will Manage the day to day operations to meet organizational performance plans and growth objectives within established budgets and timelines
- The Station Manager will Manage and control departmental expenditures/finance within established budgets
- The Station Manager will Implement and enhance a daily operating report process that measures effectiveness to plan for the operation
- The Station Manager will Monitor, measure and report on operational issues, opportunities, development plans and achievements
- The Station Manager will Manage direct reporting staff; implement training to improve skills and to insure a satisfied front line workforce
- The Station Manager will Develop forward focused station planning to predict staff and equipment requirements
- The Station Manager will Build a strong operation work group by identifying weaknesses and implementing processes and training to close those gaps
- The Station Manager will Provide leadership and guidance by coaching, counselling and mentoring the Supervisors and front line workforce on a day to day basis to directly enhance their skills
- The Station Manager will Identify and implement new operating techniques that will improve productivity and reduce costs
- The Station Manager will Ensure activities meet with and integrate with organizational requirements for quality, health and safety, legal, environmental and general overall objectives
- The Station Manager will Identify and implement plans to reduce ground support equipment fleet expense and assist with fleet renewal requirements planning
- The Station Manager will Contribute to the evaluation and development of operational strategy and performance in co-operation with the company’sSenior Management Team
- Assist the Supervisors in the day to day operations
- Review work performance to ensure staff are meeting company requirements
- Ensure customer service standards are met and/or exceeded
- Take corrective/disciplinary actions when necessary
- Oversee and provide training for Supervisors and front line workforce to ensure they are in compliance with the company safety standards and procedures. Update and maintain training files as required
- Ensure that departmental control procedures are established and maintained
- Ensure all ramp vehicles and equipment is being properly maintained
- Submit all reports/documentation as required by the Director of Operation
- Other duties as assigned
Additional Information
- Minimum of (2) years’ experience in the aircraft ground handling industry at a Management level
- Have had success partnering with colleagues across the business and are viewed and respected as a leader and coach
- Ability to work cross functionally and resolve internal issues
- Related work experience in ground handling at various levels and also familiar with ground support equipment fleets
- Strong attention to detail and knowledge of effective ground handling operating procedures
- Produce and metric focused using these skills to drive operating results
- Demonstrated management/leadership abilities, including training, team building and administration; can build a strong front line team focused on productivity while enhancing employee and customer satisfaction
- Have a strong reputation of relationship building with both internal and external customers
- Have experience in positions of increasing responsibility in a safety, operationally focused, service-oriented business
- Experience managing a large diversified workforce
- Have good communication skills both verbal and written
- Proficient with computers and a good general knowledge in software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
- Able to work in adverse weather conditions
- Flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays if required
