Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Planning, the Sustainability Specialist is responsible for supporting the development of, and implementation of Edmonton Airports’ corporate sustainability strategy through the evaluation and documentation of performance according to the Global Reporting Initiatives and Sustainability Reporting framework. This position will support the development of on-airport sustainability efforts through the concerted participation of business partners, and collaborates with community partners to build synergies that maximize Edmonton Airports’ contribution to the economic development of the region.
• Support the development of the corporate sustainability strategy by preparing and implementing an airport corporate Sustainability Planning document and supporting the development of the sustainability strategy. • Facilitation of the adoption of sustainability objectives with the Board of Directors, executives and senior management. This includes problem solving and issue awareness. • Coordinate, prepare and present sustainability orientation presentations and sustainability tours which identify the sustainability initiatives of best practices outlined by Edmonton Airports business plans. • Evaluate and document Edmonton Airports performance of sustainability initiatives in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiatives Sustainability Reporting Framework. • Data management and communication of monthly waste and recycling information. • Project managing Economic Impact Studies on airport employment and new flight connections. After completion of work, is also responsible for the interpretation and communication of the data to appropriate audiences.
Special Requirements • A Bachelors Degree in Business Communication, Business Administration, Science, Engineering, or Environmental fields with 3-5 years experience or combination of education and experience • Exceptional written and oral presentation, communication, negotiation and persuasive skills • Ability to work in a tight deadline environment with changing priorities • Ability to identify and advise on sustainability opportunities to integrate accountability reporting activities and principles into Edmonton Airports strategy, planning and financial systems • Strong understanding of laws, regulations and ordinances affecting sustainability or other related areas • Strong problem solving and analytical skills • Strong understanding and working knowledge of airport operations • Experience with Management System Standards • Experience with modern office procedures, methods and equipment • Ability to secure and maintain appropriate level of airport security
