The Department of Transportation and Works is responsible for the administration, supervision, control, regulation, management and direction of all matters relating to transportation and public works. As such, the Department oversees the construction and maintenance of the provincial highways; the provision of the provincial ferry services; management of the provincial government fleet of light vehicles and heavy equipment; operation and maintenance of the provincial government air ambulances and water bombers; and construction and management of provincial government buildings. The vision of the Department of Transportation and Works is of safe, reliable and sustainable transportation and public works infrastructure and services, demonstrating a commitment to service excellence in supporting the social and economic needs of Newfoundland and Labrador. Duties Work involves responsibility for performing daily safety checks and maintenance inspections of airstrip surface, lights, markers, building, security, and supplies. The incumbent is also responsible for taking charge of the overall coordination of the emergency operations at the scene as the on-scene controller. Other responsibilities include routine daily maintenance on equipment and maintaining accurate documentation of activities at the airport and maintenance records; maintain airport surfaces; snow plowing, snow removal and grading gravel runways and immediately advising the supervisor of any conditions which may adversely affect the operation of aircrafts. The incumbent is expected to attend landings and takeoffs of aircraft. Other duties as assigned. Screening Criteria
