Manager Line Operations

Basic Purpose of position: 

Supervise Line Pilots to support the operation in a specific region. Liaise with other departments and outside parties pertinent to daily operations.

Key Activities: 
  • Monitor Flight Operations reports and take appropriate action as required.
  • Oversight on daily operations of flight crew.
  • Provide guidance on day to day issues as well as incidents and emergencies.
  • Provide support, coaching, and feedback to the Line Operations Support Managers and the pilot group.
  • Participate in the interviewing and selection process for pilot hiring.
  • Participate in meetings with local union representatives on possible grievances and disciplinary meetings.
  • Communicate and bring meaning to department/corporate direction and communication.
  • Provide guidance on Collective Agreement language.
  • Liaise with local Airport Authorities and Air Traffic Services on issues pertinent to day to day operations.
  • Write Flight Ops Memos to flight crew dealing with operational issues within the region.
  • Monitor pilots for compliance with company policies, procedures and standards.
  • Monitor Pilot absenteeism within the guidelines as set out in the Jazz Attendance Management Program.
  • Participate in daily operations calls and report on any information required from investigations.
  • Communicate with other departments to identify and assist in rectifying Flight Crew issues and requests including scheduling, payroll and leaves.
  • Liaise with local company airport manager on issues related to Flight crew facilities, ramp procedures, ground icing, radio communications, etc.
  • Liaise with Transport Canada on local issues.
  • Participate in local HUB meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with Chief Pilot, Line Operations.
  • All other duties assigned by Chief Pilot, Line Operations and/or Sr. Chief Pilot Line Operations and Director of Flight Operations
  • Participate on local Occupational Safety and Health meetings.
  • Liaise with Safety Quality & Environment on Investigations and SMS reports.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform duties in accordance with established policies and procedures while giving primary consideration to personal safety, and the safety of co-workers and customers.

Qualifications: 
  • At least 3 years of supervisory/management experience is required.
  • Previous Line Pilot experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is a requirement.
  • Experience using CrewTrac, CrewQual, Qpulse and Sabre products would be an asset.
  • At least 1 year of experience managing/supervising within a unionized environment is required.
  • A degree or diploma is required. Preference would go to those who have obtained a degree or diploma in Business, Industrial relations or aviation management.
  • Labour relations training or experience is an asset.
  • Experience working in an aviation (or other industry) operations environment is required.
  • Leadership with the ability to delegate while maintaining overall control and direction.
  • Communicate and build strategic working relationships effectively within and outside the organization. 
  • High stress tolerance as it relates to critical decision making.
